How we grade them

3.8GPABitwardenExcellent2.4GPAPasspackFair
Value for money
AThe useful version costs nothing, and Premium is $1.65 a month, billed as $19.80 a year, against $2.99 for the middle of this category and $2.49 where the cheap quarter even starts. Families covers 6 people for $3.99 a month.
BTeams is $1.66 a user a month paid yearly, inside the cheap end of this category, for up to 20 people with unlimited passwords and sharing. Single sign-on, Active Directory, the API and the admin controls need Business at $4.50, the dear end.
Free plan and trial
AThe best free plan in the category and the only one with no wall in it: unlimited logins, passkeys, notes and cards on unlimited devices, free for good. File attachments, the built-in authenticator and emergency access are the paid extras.
CNo free plan and no plan for individuals, but a 28-day free trial with no credit card. That's long enough to move a small team over before anyone pays.
Features
AIt does everything a password manager should and two things none of the paid rivals here do: the code is open source, and you can run the whole service on your own server. Passwords, passkeys, autofill, a generator, Send for links that disappear, then two-factor codes and 5 GB of encrypted attachments on Premium.
CZero-knowledge encryption, sharing with people and teams, one-time shares with outsiders, built-in TOTP codes and password history. The gap the listing names is autofill: the only extension is for Chrome, with Firefox and Edge coming soon, and there's no Android app.
Ease of use
A4.76 from about 33,500 App Store ratings, the top of this category. Sign up free and your logins fill in across your devices. The self-hosting is optional and most people will never go near it.
CNo rating on record. It's a team tool, so someone sets up the account, the teams and the sharing first. Autofill only works in Chrome and on iPhone; anywhere else you're in the web app.
Platforms and integrations
BNo common device is left out: web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and a browser extension. There's no list of integrations and no public API on the listing, though. The only connecting out to other software is directory sync, SCIM and single sign-on, and those are business plans.
BWeb, iPhone and a Chrome extension, with sign-in through Google, Microsoft or Active Directory, YubiKey support and an API on Business. No desktop or Android app, and Firefox and Edge are still to come.
