Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What these tools do, how many we grade and what to know before choosing

15

webinar and live streaming tools we grade, from their own pages

Host webinars and stream live to several platforms at once, with sign-up pages, chat and replays.

Before you choose, here are 7 things to know about webinar and live streaming tools, worked out from every one we grade.

  1. 1

We grade 15 webinar and live streaming tools

2 of them are free or have a free plan, and 11 more let you try before paying. Everything in this guide comes from their own pages and our grades.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $47 a month in the middle

From $16 (Ecamm) to $100 (Livestorm), going by what each one's paid plans start at.

  3. 3

Best value: ClickMeeting, Castr and Ecamm

Nothing on our chart scores higher than these without costing more.

  4. 4

3 of 15 have iPhone and Android apps

13 run in a web browser and 3 have a Windows app. Check the one you need before you fall for anything.

  5. 5

    The middle GPA is 2.2

0 score 3.0 or higher. The highest is ClickMeeting, at 2.6.

  6. 6

    Best free option: Restream

Restream has the highest GPA of the free ones, 2.4. Multistream one live video to YouTube, Twitch, LinkedIn and more.

  7. 7

15 worth keeping, 0 you could make

By our keep-or-make rules, 15 do something you couldn't reasonably build yourself, 0 are simple enough to make with an AI app builder, and 0 are a close call.

Part 02 · Top three

Our top three

The three we'd look at first, and who each one suits

The three webinar and live streaming tools we'd look at first. First place suits the most people; second and third are the best picks for the people it leaves out. Each has an Insider's Guide of its own.

  1. 1st

    2.6GPA

    ClickMeeting

    Free trial · from $37/mo

For: Most small businesses running webinars

ClickMeeting runs live webinars, automated (pre-recorded) webinars and ordinary meetings from one account, with registration and waiting rooms, polls, a whiteboard, breakout rooms, captions, paid events through Stripe or PayPal and broadcasts to YouTube, Facebook or LinkedIn. Live is $37 a month for up to 50 attendees and Automated $48, both billed annually, and the 14-day trial for 25 attendees needs no card. It runs on the web, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Know the limits: rooms of 100 to 1,000 cost more, running two events at once needs the Parallel events add-on, and the whiteboard works in events of up to 40 people.

    2.4GPA

    Restream

    Free plan · from $19/mo

For: People streaming live to several platforms at once

Restream sends one live video, from its browser studio or from OBS or Zoom, to YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, LinkedIn, X, TikTok and other channels at once, with every channel's comments in one chat. The free plan streams to 2 channels with Restream branding, and Standard is $19 a month ($190 a year billed annually) for 3 channels, no branding and cloud recording. It is second because it is a streaming studio first: webinars with a registration page and replay cost an extra $99 a month for 100 attendees, Studio stays at 720p until Professional at $49 a month, and there is no desktop or phone app.

  3. 3rd

    2.2GPA

    eWebinar

    Free trial · from $99/mo

For: Teams replaying demos and training on a schedule

eWebinar turns a recorded demo, onboarding call or training into a webinar that runs on demand, just in time or on a recurring schedule in each viewer's time zone, with more than 25 timed polls, quizzes and calls to action, and chat answered later by email or Slack. Level 1 is $99 a month, or $1,010 a year, for 1 active eWebinar, 1,000 registrants a month and unlimited team members, with a 14-day free trial. It is third because the job is narrower: it does not host live webinars, a sixth active eWebinar moves an account to Level 3 at $299 a month, and ClickMeeting's Automated plan runs pre-recorded webinars for 50 attendees at $48.

Part 05 · Keep or make

Keep or make?

Which are worth paying for, and which you could make yourself

0

Simple enough to make yourself, of 15

Some software does something you couldn’t reasonably build yourself. Some is simple enough that an AI app builder could make the core of it in an afternoon. Here’s where webinar and live streaming tools land, by the same rules for every tool.

  • 15

    Keep it

It does something you could not reasonably make for yourself, or it costs nothing.

  • 0

    Your call

You could make the core of it, and you would give something up.

  • 0

    You could make this

What it does is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well, and it charges every month.

Worth keeping

  • ClickMeeting

To replace ClickMeeting you would be making live video to hundreds of people at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • Castr

To replace Castr you would be making one live stream sent to several platforms at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • GoTo Webinar

To replace GoTo Webinar you would be making live video to hundreds of people at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • Restream

To replace Restream you would be making one live stream sent to several platforms at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
