Best for checking AI mentions from a free plan

MentionRank shows which of your prompts get your brand named in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, and compares you with up to six rivals. There's a free plan for one site and 10 prompts, and Pro is $39 a month. But it doesn't look at Google's AI answers or Copilot, only Spotlight prompts get checked daily, and the free plan leaves out Claude and Grok.

Who MentionRank is for

  • Fits if you want to see whether AI names you on 10 prompts without paying
  • Works for agencies with up to 10 client sites, on the $149 Agency plan

Who MentionRank is not for

  • Skip it if Google's AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot matter to you, as they aren't tracked
  • Tight if you're staying free, with 1 site, 10 prompts and no Claude or Grok
  • Not for you if you want daily checks on every prompt, as only 5 to 30 Spotlights a month get them
  • Watch out: prices are monthly only, with no yearly option and no trial of the paid plans
  • Watch out: no integrations or API are listed, and articles are capped per plan at one credit each

Why MentionRank gets a 2.0

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyPro is $39 a month for 50 prompts on all five models, above the cheaper quarter's $29 and under the $49 middle. The page shows monthly prices only, with no yearly discount.
  • CFree plan and trialFree forever with no card: 1 website, 10 prompts and 1 article a month, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. 10 prompts is a cap you'll reach fast.
  • CFeaturesMention tracking in five models, a library of 10,000-plus prompts, rival comparisons, a site scanner and an article writer. The gaps are in its own listing: no Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot, and daily scans only for the few Spotlight prompts.
  • CEase of useNo rating on record. The site scanner suggests prompts, and you still pick prompts, rivals and Spotlights before it tells you much.
  • CPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, and the listing names no integrations or API.

Keep MentionRank, or make your own?

Keep it

The plain part of MentionRank you could make: long-form writing and reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 1 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 90 of the 157 other AI search visibility tools grade higher. It costs $468 a year.

What you could make

  • Long-form writing and reports: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • The same prompts asked of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers every day, and the answers kept.

What this rests on. MentionRank’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

What is MentionRank?

MentionRank checks which prompts in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok mention a brand, scores its visibility and compares it with up to six competitors. It has a searchable library of more than 10,000 prompts, a site scanner that suggests prompts to track and a generator for articles aimed at AI answers. A free plan covers one site and ten prompts.

Worth knowing

  • The free plan leaves out Claude and Grok and tracks only one website.
  • Daily scans across all five models apply only to prompts given a Spotlight, which are capped each month.
  • The page shows monthly prices only, with no annual option or trial.
  • Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Copilot are not among the models it names.
