Zoho Assist

Remote support and unattended access for help desks and IT teams

Free plan · from $10/moRemote DesktopChecked Oct 18, 20264.7 on the App Store

Our verdict

Second of our top three remote desktop apps

For: Small help desks and IT teams supporting others

Zoho Assist is built for helping other people: a technician joins a customer's computer from an invitation or reaches office machines unattended, and sessions can start from Zendesk, ServiceNow, Freshservice or Jira tickets. The free plan covers 1 technician, 5 unattended computers and one session at a time, with no limit on session length. Remote Support Standard is $10 per technician a month, billed annually. It is second because it is a help desk tool: unattended computers are a separate plan at $10 per 25, file transfer needs paying, and supporting phones starts on Professional at $15. Its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.7 from about 900 ratings.

Best for remote support for small help desks

Zoho Assist is a solid help desk tool with a free plan a one-person IT shop could live on: one technician, five unattended computers, no time limit. Paid plans start at $10 per technician a month billed annually. The catch is that support sessions and unattended computers are sold separately, so many teams pay twice.

Who Zoho Assist is for

  • Great if you're a one-person IT shop looking after a handful of machines for free
  • Handy when support requests already arrive as Zendesk, Freshdesk or Jira tickets
  • Good for teams that want their own branding on support sessions

Who Zoho Assist is not for

  • Pricey if you need both support and unattended access, as each is a separate plan
  • Tight if you stay free and need file transfer, which needs a paid plan
  • Skip it if session recording is a must on a budget, as it isn't in the Standard plans

Why Zoho Assist gets a 3.0

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyRemote Support Standard is $10 per technician a month billed annually, and unattended computers are a separate $10 per 25, so a technician doing both pays $20. For the same job that's below ScreenConnect, TeamViewer and LogMeIn Resolve, but above Getscreen.me.
  • BFree plan and trialA free plan you can actually use: 1 technician, 5 unattended computers and no limit on session length, for personal or small business use. It's one session at a time, and file transfer and screen blanking need paying. Paid plans have a 15-day trial with no card.
  • BFeaturesOn-demand sessions with chat, voice and video, unattended access with bulk deployment and Wake-on-LAN, recording, branding, a customer widget and Zia AI. Nothing in the listing is missing from the job; recording and remote printing just aren't in Standard.
  • BEase of use4.73 from 909 App Store ratings, a fine score that misses our A only on the number of ratings. Customers join from an invitation, so there's little to set up on their side.
  • APlatforms and integrationsWeb, Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android, starting sessions from Zendesk, ServiceNow, Freshservice, Freshdesk and Jira tickets, with webhooks and Zapier on higher plans.

Keep Zoho Assist, or make your own?

Keep it

To replace Zoho Assist you would be making a fast, secure link to another computer through any network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 12 of the 15 other remote desktop apps we grade. It costs $120 a year.

What you could not

  • A fast, secure link to another computer through any network.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, Zendesk, ServiceNow and Freshservice among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Zoho Assist’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
