How we grade them
| 2.6GPADocusignGood | 2.6GPAOpenSignGood | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D$75 a month for three on Standard, paying the year upfront ($25 a head, or $30 on the annual plan billed monthly). That's this category's dearest tenth, for 100 envelopes each a year, so your 240 fit with a little to spare. Web forms, payments and bulk send need Business Pro at $40. | CTeams is $19.99 a user a month billed yearly ($39.99 monthly), so about $60 a month for three. That's the dearer end of this category, for shared templates and your own storage. The free cloud plan covers 20 documents a month if you can do without sharing; self-hosting doesn't count. |
| Free plan and trial | CNo free plan, but a 30-day free trial, and the listing doesn't say it needs a card. After that even Personal is one user and 5 envelopes a month. | AThe free cloud plan has unlimited signatures and templates, 14 field types, signing order and completion certificates, with no cap a normal person would reach. Automatic reminders and the API are the paid bits. |
| Features | BTemplates, signing order, an audit trail, reminders and AI summaries for signers, then web forms, payment collection and bulk send on Business Pro. It covers the whole job. SSO, HIPAA and Salesforce wait for the custom Enhanced plans, which a small team won't miss. | CTemplates, signing order, expiry dates, decline, sealed completion certificates, plus API, webhooks, Zapier and embedded signing on paid plans. The gaps: custom branding needs Enterprise, there's no mobile app, and payment requests are still listed as coming soon. |
| Ease of use | A4.9 from about 830,000 App Store ratings, the biggest following in this category by miles. Signers don't need an account either, which saves your clients a step. | CNo store rating on record. The cloud version is a web app with templates to set up; hosting it yourself means following the self-host guide and running a server. |
| Platforms and integrations | BWeb, iPhone and Android, with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Dropbox and Box on every plan, and 1,000+ integrations plus the API from Business Pro. There's no desktop app, so it stops at a B. | BWeb only, with Zapier, Dropbox and Gmail, and an API, webhooks and embedded signing on paid plans. No phone app yet, so it's web with integrations. |

Key features
Docusign
- Send and sign
- Upload a document, drag on signature and form fields, set a signing order and send it. Signers do not need a Docusign account.
- Templates
- Reusable templates on every plan; Standard adds templates shared across the team, and Business Pro adds locked templates.
- Audit trail and reminders
- Each envelope keeps a real-time audit trail and shows whether it was sent, delivered or completed, with automatic reminders to signers.
- Web forms and payments
- Business Pro adds mobile-friendly web forms that feed a signing flow, payment collection at signing and bulk sending to many recipients.
- AI help for signers
- AI-generated summaries and a question-and-answer panel explain an agreement to signers, and AI can suggest where fields should go.
- Integrations and API
- Cloud storage and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace links on every plan; the API and over 1,000 partner integrations start at Business Pro.
OpenSign
- Unlimited free signatures
- Both the free cloud plan and the self-hosted version allow unlimited signatures, requests to others and templates.
- Open source and self-hostable
- The code is on GitHub under the AGPL-3 license and can be installed on your own servers by following the self-host guide.
- Completion certificates
- Signed files are sealed with a certificate, so any later change breaks the signature, and come with a log of access and timestamps.
- Templates and signing order
- Reusable templates, 14 field types, signing order, document expiry and an option for signers to decline.
- API, webhooks and Zapier
- Paid plans add API access, webhooks, a Zapier integration, embedded signing and your own Gmail or SMTP account for emails.
- Premium credits
- Paid plans include credits used for API sends, public signing links, bulk sends and kiosk-mode signing in person.
