Value for money
AKeep is free with a personal Google Account. The paid route is Google Workspace, from $7 a user a month on a 1-year commitment, and that buys a whole office suite with Keep as one small part of it.
AThe subscription is $19.95 a year, plus $10.00 for the first year only, and it leaves you with a permanent Windows licence. After the first year that's under $2 a month, where paid plans typically start at $5.99. Or pay $29.95 once for up to 2 computers, with no sync.
Free plan and trial
ANotes, lists, labels, reminders, sharing and offline use are all free on the web, Android and iOS. The one thing held back is making lists with Gemini, which needs a Google AI plan or a Pixel device.
BThe iPhone, iPad and Android apps are free, with notes, checklists, reminders, tags and pictures. But the Windows app, which is the whole point, is paid after a fully working 30-day trial, and syncing it with your phone needs the subscription.
Features
BA note can be text, a checklist, a photo, a drawing or audio, and voice memos get transcribed. Reminders fire at a time or a place, and shared lists update live. But it's built for short notes. You organise with colours, pins and up to 50 labels, and that's the lot.
BIt does one thing, sticky notes, and does it fully: notes that stay on top, memoboards to file them in, reminders, checklists, tags, pictures, and notes attached to a web page, document or program. You can send a note to a colleague's PC too. Sync and phone access are subscription only.
Ease of use
B4.59 from about 29,000 App Store ratings, a whisker under our line for an A. There's very little to learn: open it, type the thing, pick a colour if you like.
BWe have no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is our ceiling. It's a sticky note, so there isn't much to learn. The only homework is choosing between the two plans before you buy.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, Android, Wear OS, iPhone, iPad and a Chrome extension, with a side panel that drops your notes into Google Docs and Slides. No desktop app is listed, so on a computer it's a browser tab.
BA Windows program, free iPhone, iPad and Android apps, and a web app at Notezilla.Net. On a Mac you're left with the web app. That's a good spread, but the listing shows no integrations and no API, so it stops short of an A.

Who each one suits

Google Keep

  • Quick notes, shopping lists and reminders on a phone or smartwatch
  • People who already work in Google Docs and other Google apps
  • Households sharing lists that update in real time

Notezilla

  • Windows users who want notes that stay in view on the desktop
  • Pinning a reminder to one document, website or program
  • Small offices passing quick notes between PCs

Worth knowing

Google Keep

  • Keep allows up to 50 labels, and labels, colors and pins on a shared note are visible only to you.
  • No desktop app is listed: Keep runs in a browser, as a Chrome extension and as Android, Wear OS, iPhone and iPad apps.
  • Creating lists with Gemini in Keep requires a Google AI plan or a Pixel device.
  • Workspace Business editions are capped at 300 users; larger organizations need Enterprise pricing from Google sales.

Notezilla

  • The desktop program is Windows only. Mac access is through the web app or the iPad app, which the App Store marks as not verified for macOS.
  • The $29.95 one-time plan cannot sync or reach notes from other PCs, phones or the web; that needs the yearly subscription.
  • The subscription adds $10.00 to the first year, and after it lapses the permanent license covers a single computer.
  • On the one-time plan, major new versions are sold at a discounted price instead of being included.

Key features

Google Keep

Notes, lists, photos, drawings and audio
A note can be text, a checklist, a photo, a drawing or an audio recording. Voice memos are transcribed automatically, and text inside images is picked up by search.
Labels, colors and pins
Notes are organized with up to 50 labels, color codes and pins. Search filters by color and by attributes such as lists, audio notes with reminders or shared notes.
Time and location reminders
A reminder brings a note back at a set time or on arrival at a place, such as a grocery list that appears at the store.
Shared notes
Several people can edit the same note or list at once, with checked-off items showing up in real time. Notes can also be shared with a Google family group.
Keep inside Google Docs and Slides
A side panel in Docs and Slides lists Keep notes, which can be dragged into the document. Highlighted text or images can be saved back to Keep.
Chrome extension and offline use
The Chrome extension saves URLs, text and images to Keep and lets you add labels. Notes can be updated offline, and changes sync once you reconnect.

Notezilla

Desktop sticky notes
Notes sit on the Windows desktop, can stay on top of other apps, and can be moved into folders called memoboards to clear the desktop.
Notes attached to documents and sites
A note can be stuck to a web page, document, program, folder or window, and shows up when that item is opened again.
Reminders and checklists
Any note can carry a reminder alarm, and checklist notes hold to-do items with checkboxes that can be ticked off and sorted.
Sync and phone access
With the subscription, notes sync between computers and with the iPhone/iPad and Android apps and the Notezilla.Net web app.
Sending notes to other people
Notes can be sent to computers on the local network or to contacts over the internet; people without Notezilla get them as email.
Tags, pictures and skins
Tags group related notes, pictures can be pasted into a note, and skins change a note's paper texture and color.
