Evernote
Note-taking app with web clipping, tasks, calendar and AI search
Evernote report card
Very good · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 9, 2026
Best for a searchable archive of clippings, scans and notes
Evernote is still the big filing cabinet. Clip a web page, scan a letter, save a PDF, and find any of it years later with search. It's picked up tasks, a calendar and an AI assistant along the way. The trouble is the price. Free is 50 notes on one device, and Starter is $99 a year for a plan that still caps you at 1,000 notes.
Who Evernote is for
- Great if you save web pages, scans and PDFs by the hundred and need to find them again
- Handy when you want notes, tasks and calendar events in one app
- Good for people with years of old Evernote notes, who say quick retrieval is what they rely on it for
Who Evernote is not for
- Tight if you're never paying, because Free is 50 notes, 1 notebook and one device
- Pricey if you just want somewhere to write, at $99 a year for a plan capped at 1,000 notes
- Skip it if you're on Linux, as the desktop apps are for Mac and Windows only
Why Evernote gets a 3.2
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- CValue for moneyStarter is $99 a year, about $8.25 a month, or $14.99 paid monthly. That's the dear end of a category that typically starts at $5.99, and it still stops at 1,000 notes and 3 devices. Unlimited everything is Advanced, at $249.99 a year.
- BFree plan and trialThere is a free plan, but it's small: 50 notes, 1 notebook, 1 GB of storage and sync on a single device. So it's your phone or your laptop, not both. Paid plans have a 7-day trial.
- AFeaturesA Web Clipper for Chrome, Firefox and Safari, document scanning, and search that takes Boolean and location queries or finds related notes by meaning. Add tasks with reminders, Google and Microsoft calendars, an AI assistant, meeting transcripts and shared notes edited in real time.
- BEase of use4.4 from about 78,000 App Store ratings. Reviews going back several years report crashes, freezes or unsaved edits in the iPhone and iPad app, sometimes after a big update.
- APlatforms and integrationsWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and a browser clipper, with Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and Outlook connected. An MCP connector lets Claude and ChatGPT work with your notes. No Linux app, though.
What these grades rest on. Graded from this listing, whose facts were read from Evernote's own pages on 4 October 2026, and its App Store rating. Evernote's plans page doesn't show prices to a plain reader, so the listing's dollar prices come from third-party price records. Not based on using the product, and shorter than our full reviews.
