| 3.6GPALogseqExcellent | 3.4GPARelanoteVery good | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | BThe only paid part is Logseq Sync, which comes with a $5 a month Open Collective contribution. That's about the usual price for a notes app here, and it buys sync for up to 10 graphs plus insider builds. Sync is still in beta, so you're backing a project as much as buying a service. | BPremium is $4.99 a month, or $49 a year if paid annually, for unlimited notes and 30,000 AI credits a month. That's about typical for a category where paid plans usually start at $5.99. The AI being included helps. The 1 GB storage cap on a paid plan doesn't. |
| Free plan and trial | AThe desktop, web and mobile apps are free and open source, with no commercial licence needed for personal or company use. You get the full app with local graphs. Most people could stay here, as long as they sort out moving files between devices themselves. | BStarter is free for life with no card required: up to 100 notes, 100 MB of storage and 3,000 AI credits a month, with private sharing. A real plan, but tight. Keep notes on one course or one project and you'll reach 100 quickly. |
| Features | ANested blocks you can reference or embed anywhere, backlinks, a knowledge graph, a journals page, tasks, queries, whiteboards, PDF highlighting and spaced-repetition flashcards. That's the whole job of a notes app and then some. | AFolders, two-way links you make by typing @, tags, and a graph you can filter. AI writes inside a note, builds a notebook of 50 or more notes from a short prompt, and chats over notes, PDFs, web pages and YouTube videos. Chosen notes can be encrypted on your device, and the last 10 edits of a note can be restored. |
| Ease of use | BIt's an outliner, so you start by typing bullets on today's journal page. Queries and block references take longer to get your head round. No App Store rating is on record to go by, so a B is as high as we go. | BWe have no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is our ceiling. Sign up in a browser and start. Sync between devices just happens, with no folders or services to connect first. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWeb, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, with a Zotero integration for references. Because notes are plain Markdown or Org-mode files, other editors can open them too. | AAny browser on a computer, plus iPhone and Android apps that sync, and an optional daily backup to Google Drive. That clears our bar for an A, if only just: Google Drive is the single integration, there's no API on the listing, and there's no desktop app. |
| Best for | linked outlines kept as plain files you own | linked notes in a browser with AI help built in |

Key features
Logseq
- Outliner on local files
- Notes are nested bullet blocks saved as plain-text Markdown or Org-mode files on your device.
- References, backlinks and knowledge graph
- Pages and blocks can be referenced or embedded anywhere else, with backlinks and a graph showing how pages connect.
- Journals, tasks and queries
- A journals page collects dated entries, tasks and to-dos sit inside the outline, and queries pull matching blocks into one place.
- Whiteboards
- A spatial canvas where blocks from your notes sit next to shapes, drawings, website embeds and connectors.
- PDF highlights and flashcards
- Highlight PDFs inside the app, bring in references through the Zotero integration and review notes as spaced-repetition cards.
- Logseq Sync and the DB version
- Logseq Sync (beta) encrypts and syncs up to 10 graphs for backers. Logseq 2.0, a database-based version with real-time collaboration sync, is in beta.
Relanote
- Links, folders and tags
- Folders and sub-folders sit alongside wiki-style bi-directional links. Typing @ creates a new note or links to an existing one without leaving the page, and # adds a tag.
- Graph view
- A mind map-style graph shows how notes and notebooks connect, can be filtered by notebook or tag, and opens any note with a click.
- AI notebooks and writing tools
- A few words of prompt can produce a notebook of 50 or more notes. A / shortcut inside a note opens Write with AI, auto-complete and summarizing.
- Chat and Q&A with your material
- AI chat works over notes, notebooks, PDFs, web pages and YouTube videos. The Q&A tool answers a question and lays out follow-up questions as a graph.
- Sharing and publishing
- Notes and notebooks can be shared privately on every plan with people who have a Relanote account. Publishing them at a public link needs Premium.
- Backup, history and encryption
- A daily backup to Google Drive is optional, notes export as HTML, JSON or text, the last 10 edits of a note can be restored, and chosen notes can be encrypted on the device.
