2.2GPA

Fair · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 17, 2026

Best for phone, texts, video and web chat from one provider

Nextiva bundles calls, texts, video meetings and team chat, and its higher plans pull website chat, email and online reviews into the same inbox. Core is $15 a person a month for five, but only on a 12-month term. There's no free trial, and the two bigger plans are sold through a sales demo.

Who Nextiva is for

  • Great if you also answer website chat and online reviews and want them in one inbox
  • Handy when you're stuck in another provider's contract, since Switch and Save can give free months
  • Good for offices on Linux, which Nextiva's desktop app runs on

Who Nextiva is not for

  • Skip it if you want to try before paying, as there's no free trial of the phone plans
  • Pricey if you pay monthly, at $23 for Core and $50 for Engage
  • Tight if you need call recording or a toll-free number, as both are add-ons on Core

Why Nextiva gets a 2.2

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for money$15 a head for five on Core with a 12-month term, or $23 paid monthly. That's just over this category's cheaper quarter ($14). Recording, a toll-free number and fax are add-ons on Core, and Engage is $25, or $50 paid monthly.
  • FFree plan and trialNo free plan and no free trial of the phone plans. Only the XBert AI Receptionist add-on has a 14-day trial.
  • BFeaturesCalls with an auto-attendant, texts, video meetings, team chat and one inbox for calls, texts, email, social and reviews. Scale adds a call center and AI call notes. That's the whole job, though CRMs are add-ons on every plan.
  • CEase of useNo App Store rating on record. Core is self-serve, but Engage and Scale go through a sales demo, and there are phone menus to build before you're running.
  • APlatforms and integrationsWeb, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, more than most here, with Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, HubSpot, Outlook and Google Contacts.

Keep Nextiva, or make your own?

Keep it

To replace Nextiva you would be making phone numbers and calls carried over the phone network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 19 other business phone systems grade higher. It costs $180 a year.

What you could not

  • Phone numbers and calls carried over the phone network.
  • Video calls.
  • Chat that a whole team counts on staying up.
  • Texts from a business number, registered with the carriers.
  • Speech turned into text you can trust.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • It plugs into other products, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce and HubSpot among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Nextiva’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
