What these tools do, how many we grade and what to know before choosing

14

marketing reporting and call tracking tools we grade, from their own pages

Put ad, SEO and call numbers on one dashboard, and see which campaign made the phone ring.

Part 02 · Top three

Our top three

The three we'd look at first, and who each one suits

The three marketing reporting and call tracking tools we'd look at first. First place suits the most people; second and third are the best picks for the people it leaves out. Each has an Insider's Guide of its own.

  1. 1st

    3.0GPA

    Data Studio

    Free plan · from $9/mo

For: Most small businesses and freelancers

Data Studio, Google's report builder once called Looker Studio, turns data from Google Analytics, Google Ads, Sheets, BigQuery and databases into interactive reports you can share, edit together and embed on any web page. The editor, Google connectors and 1,300+ community connectors are free for creators and viewers, and Pro is $9 per user a month per project for team workspaces, up to 200 delivery schedules per report and Gemini. Know the limits: it is built for teams in general rather than agencies, you build each report yourself, most non-Google ad platforms connect through third-party connectors, and support needs Pro plus a Google Cloud support plan.

  2. 2nd

    2.6GPA

    AgencyAnalytics

    Free trial · from $20/mo

For: Agencies sending branded reports to clients

AgencyAnalytics pulls SEO, ad, social, email and call tracking data from 85+ platforms into dashboards, scheduled reports with approvals, and a client portal under your logo and domain, with alerts across every client. Core is $20 per client a month billed annually ($25 monthly) with every feature and unlimited staff and client users, so 10 clients cost $200 a month, after a 14-day trial with no card. It is second because it is built for agencies alone and costs from the first client: there is no free plan, annual billing is a one-year commitment, rank tracking is an add-on at $41.67 a month per 500 keywords, and it runs in a browser only.

  3. 3rd

    2.4GPA

    CallRail

    Free trial · from $50/mo

For: Businesses that get their leads by phone

CallRail gives each ad, page or campaign its own tracking number, then records, routes and transcribes calls and texts and reports which source drove each one, with Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, GA4, HubSpot and Salesforce links. Lead Tracking is $50 a month billed yearly for 5 numbers and 250 minutes, after a 14-day trial with no card, and it has iPhone, iPad and Android apps. It is third because it answers one question, which campaign made the phone ring, and usage adds up: form tracking needs $95, extra minutes are 6¢ and numbers $3, the yearly base fee is due up front, and it is sold only in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.

Part 05 · Keep or make

Keep or make?

Which are worth paying for, and which you could make yourself

0

Simple enough to make yourself, of 14

Some software does something you couldn’t reasonably build yourself. Some is simple enough that an AI app builder could make the core of it in an afternoon. Here’s where marketing reporting and call tracking tools land, by the same rules for every tool.

  • 14

    Keep it

It does something you could not reasonably make for yourself, or it costs nothing.

  • 0

    Your call

You could make the core of it, and you would give something up.

  • 0

    You could make this

What it does is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well, and it charges every month.

Worth keeping

  • Data Studio

The plain part of Data Studio you could make: reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

  • AgencyAnalytics

To replace AgencyAnalytics you would be making an index of the links between billions of web pages. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • CallRail

To replace CallRail you would be making phone numbers that change for each visitor so every call is traced to its source. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • Databox

The plain part of Databox you could make: reports and goals. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
