|---|---|---|
| Value for money | CPlus is $4 a month billed yearly, $5 month by month. That's past the cheap quarter of this category, which ends at $2.99, and what it buys is modest: 1 GB of remote storage and unlimited shared channels. Pro at $8 gets you 10 GB. | DPlus is $12.42 a user a month billed yearly, $19 monthly, past where the dearest tenth of note apps starts. That buys unlimited spaces and uploads, recurring tasks and your full planner history. Unlimited shared spaces need Pro at $24.92. |
| Free plan and trial | BThe app is free with unlimited private spaces, and only files like images and videos count against the 100 MB of remote storage, so a text note-taker could live here for years. Paste in screenshots, though, and 100 MB goes quickly. | BFree has unlimited pages and projects, 3 personal spaces, Google and Outlook calendars and 1,000 AI credits, which one person could live on. The caps: 5 MB per upload, 2 weeks of planner history and 1 shared space. |
| Features | BEvery item is an object with a type, like Note, Task or Book, shown as a calendar, gallery or kanban board. Encrypted sync, offline use, shared channels with chat, publishing a page to the web, self-hosted sync. Sharing is all-or-nothing, mind: no per-object permissions. | BTiles of notes, tasks, images and files on pages, grouped into projects, plus a daily planner, a web clipper with AI summaries, real-time editing, comments, published pages, forms and a timeline. Nothing in the listing shows a gap in the notes job; some AI integration features are still to come. |
| Ease of use | CNo store rating on record, and this one asks something of you. Thinking in objects, types and properties is a real learning curve next to an app that just hands you a page to write on. | CNo rating on record, and a blank page of tiles leaves the layout to you, which is why the template gallery is there. Spaces, projects and pages are three levels to get your head round. |
| Platforms and integrations | BMac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, with a Raycast extension, a Local API, an MCP server and a CLI tool. What holds it back is the browser: there's no web version at all, so it's apps only. | BWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and a web clipper, so every device but Linux. What it talks to is short, though: Google Calendar, Outlook, ChatGPT and Claude, with no API on record. |
| Best for | an encrypted workspace that lives on your device | laying out notes and plans visually |

Key features
Anytype
- Objects, types and properties
- Every item is an object with a type, such as Note, Task, Person or Book, and properties like due date or priority that describe objects and link them together.
- Calendar, gallery and kanban views
- Groups of objects can be laid out as a calendar, a gallery or a kanban board, then filtered and grouped by their properties.
- Local-first encrypted sync
- Content is stored on your device and encrypted before it syncs, so the app keeps working without a connection. Sync can also run peer-to-peer over a local network.
- Self-hosting and local-only mode
- Instead of Anytype's network you can sync through your own infrastructure, or turn sync off so data stays on one device.
- Shared channels and chats
- Invite people as viewers, editors or admins. Changes appear instantly when members are online, and channels include encrypted chat threads.
- Web publishing and Local API
- Any object can be published as a public static web page. A Local API, an MCP server and a CLI tool let other applications work with your data.
xTiles
- Tile-based pages and projects
- Notes, tasks, images, files and links are placed as tiles on a page, and pages are grouped into projects inside personal or shared spaces.
- Daily planner
- Plan the day with tasks, reminders and Google or Outlook calendar events. Free accounts can view and edit 2 weeks of planner history.
- AI assistant and AI integrations
- The built-in assistant has 1,000 credits on Free and no cap on paid plans. Through MCP, ChatGPT and Claude can create projects and tasks, with full editing on Pro.
- Web clipper
- Clip web pages into xTiles as a task, a note or part of a project, with AI summaries of long pages.
- Sharing and collaboration
- Real-time editing in shared spaces, comments and mentions, private or public project sharing, published pages, forms and a timeline view.
- Template gallery
- Free templates for planning, work and study, including planners aimed at people with ADHD, plus 100+ premium templates on paid plans.
