Value for money
AStandard is $6.70 a user a month for the first 100 users, about half what paid plans in this category usually start at, and it comes with 250 GB, page permissions and guests. Mind the pricing page: the $5.42 it shows first is an average for a 300-user team.
AStarter is $6 a user a month billed yearly, or $8 monthly, which is the cheap end of this category. Business, with SSO and the Sidekick AI, is $10. The catch: guests and read-only members are billed too.
Free plan and trial
AFree for up to 10 users, with pages, spaces, databases, templates and 2 GB of file storage. A small team could stay here for good. You don't get space or page permission settings, though, so you can't lock a page down.
BFree for good, with real-time editing, all four views, the API and every app. But it stops at 50 items, 3 canvases and 2 GB in total, and the plan table lists no version history. A growing wiki gets to 50 items quickly.
Features
APages in spaces with a page tree, live editing by several people, comments and version history. Then whiteboards linked to Jira, databases you can lay out as tables, cards or boards, rule-based automation, and Rovo AI search and chat on paid plans. That's the whole wiki job.
AEvery item is a live document, and the same workspace turns into a list, a board, a table or a graph. Add whiteboards and diagrams on a canvas, publishing as a website, an API and an MCP server, plus Sidekick AI on Business.
Ease of use
A4.6 from about 3,700 App Store ratings. It's cloud software you sign up for, and Standard and Premium have a 7-day trial that asks for no payment information. Templates mean you rarely start a page from nothing.
BNo app rating on record. It's pitched at small teams who want little setup, with hotkeys, slash commands and Markdown for people who like to type their way around.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, iPhone and Android, with Jira, Jira Service Management, Trello, Loom, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, GitHub and Figma connected. There's no desktop app on record, so at a computer it's the browser.
AWeb, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, with an API on every plan and integrations for Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, Jira and Figma.

Worth knowing

Confluence

  • The Free plan stops at 10 users and 2 GB of storage and has no space or page permission settings.
  • The pricing page's default prices ($5.42 Standard, $10.44 Premium) are per-user averages for a 300-user team; the first 100 users cost $6.70 or $13.20 each.
  • Enforced SSO and SCIM need a separate Atlassian Guard Standard subscription on every plan except Enterprise, which is sold on annual contracts only.
  • The self-managed Data Center edition reaches end of life on March 28, 2029, when its subscriptions expire and it becomes read-only.

Nuclino

  • The Free plan stops at 50 items, 3 canvases and 2 GB of total storage, and its plan table lists no version history.
  • Every user is billed, including guests and read-only members, and upgrading moves the whole team to the paid plan.
  • Sidekick AI, SAML single sign-on, the audit log and custom publishing domains are limited to the Business plan.
  • Starter keeps 30 days of version history; unlimited history needs Business.

Key features

Confluence

Pages and spaces
Pages hold project plans, meeting notes and policies, and are grouped into spaces with a page tree. Several people can edit at once, with inline and page comments and version history.
Whiteboards
Freeform canvases for brainstorming and diagrams, with built-in links to Jira. Free allows 3 active whiteboards per user, Standard 10, and Premium and Enterprise have no limit.
Databases
Structured collections that gather information from Jira and other apps and can be laid out as tables, cards or boards.
Rovo AI
Rovo Search, Chat and Agents come with paid plans and are metered in monthly credits: 25 per user on Standard, 70 on Premium and 150 on Enterprise.
Automation
Rule-based automation with templates and a low-code builder. Monthly allowances run from 50 steps per subscription on Free to 500 steps per user on Enterprise.
Permissions and external sharing
Paid plans add space and page permissions, view-only public links, anonymous access and up to 5 free guests per paid user, each limited to a single space.

Nuclino

Collaborative items
Each item is a document that the team edits in real time, with room for notes, assigned tasks, flowcharts and embedded files. Hotkeys, slash commands and Markdown are supported.
List, board, table and graph views
The same workspace can be shown as a list for docs, a board for projects and tasks, a table that sorts and filters, or a graph for exploring how knowledge connects.
Canvas
An infinite canvas for whiteboards and diagrams can be added anywhere in a workspace. The Free plan allows up to 3 canvases; paid plans have no limit.
Sidekick AI
Answers questions from the team's own content, drafts and summarizes text, extracts action items and generates images. Sidekick is part of the Business plan.
Publishing
A workspace can be published as a website that search engines can find. Publishing starts on Starter, and a custom domain needs Business.
API and MCP server
An API is included on every plan, and an MCP server connects assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor to the team's content.
