Worth knowing

Edison Mail

  • The free app is funded by Edison's research business, which collects anonymized data from commercial emails such as receipts. You can opt out or delete stored data.
  • Verify Sender phishing warnings, Validate Contacts and LinkedIn Discovery need Edison Mail+ at $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year.
  • Edison's site still mentions a Mac app, but the Mac App Store link from its launch post returned no listing when checked, so Mac is not listed here.
  • Assistant features for bills and receipts, entertainment, travel and package alerts are limited to the US, UK, Canada, Australia and India.

Extra

  • There is no Android app: Extra runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and in a desktop browser.
  • It works with Gmail and Outlook accounts only.
  • Extra is free today, but its FAQ says paid features for power users may be introduced in the future.
  • It is offered in 18 listed countries, and the apps need iOS or iPadOS 18 or later, or macOS 15.6 or later.

Key features

Edison Mail

Unified inbox
Connect an unlimited number of accounts from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, Exchange, AOL and IMAP providers and read them in one inbox.
One-tap unsubscribe and Block Sender
Unsubscribe from a mailing list with one tap, see suggested unsubscribes, and block a sender or a whole domain from reaching the inbox again.
Assistant smart folders
Smart folders show travel, shopping, bills and receipts, events and subscriptions at a glance without moving any messages.
Tracking pixel blocking
Read receipts and tracking pixels are blocked by default, without turning off images in the message.
Focused Inbox, snooze and Undo Send
Focused Inbox separates important email from messages that can wait, custom snooze brings a message back at a time you choose, and Undo Send recalls a message seconds after sending.
Verify Sender
Checks incoming messages for signs of phishing and identity spoofing and shows a warning on suspicious senders. It is part of the paid Edison Mail+ subscription.

Extra

Today tab
A daily briefing that splits the day into Needs Action, Happening Today, Good to Know and More to Browse, with reply drafts and action items prepared before you open the inbox.
Automatic categories
Mail is sorted into groups such as News, Shop, Receipts, Events, Travel, Notifications, Personal and Packages, and you can create custom categories of your own.
Bulk unsubscribe
Shows who emails you most and how much of it you read, then unsubscribes using the sender's own unsubscribe method and adds a mailbox filter for that sender's future messages.
Voice Mode
Speak a reply and Extra drafts it in your tone of voice, which it learns from the emails you send. The draft can be reviewed and edited before it goes out.
Extra Assist
An assistant that answers questions from your inbox, such as finding a confirmation number or summarizing a month of ride spending, and helps draft replies.
Natural-language search
Search by topic or context, for example a flight confirmation or a restaurant recommendation from last month, without needing the exact keywords.
