Best for Gmail as a desktop app, with several accounts

Kiwi for Gmail takes Gmail out of the browser and gives it its own app on Mac and Windows. Docs, Sheets, Calendar and Chat get their own windows too, and you can run several Google accounts side by side, which is handy if Gmail is where you live. But it's Google accounts only, there's no phone app, and you're paying from $4 a month to rehouse something that's free in a browser tab.

Who Kiwi for Gmail is for

  • Great if Gmail is open all day and you're tired of hunting for its tab
  • Handy when you juggle several Gmail or Workspace accounts and hate signing in and out
  • Good for Google Workspace people who'd like Docs and Sheets in proper desktop windows

Who Kiwi for Gmail is not for

  • Skip it if any of your email isn't Gmail or Google Workspace, as other providers aren't supported
  • Not for you if you wanted something for your phone, because it's Mac and Windows only
  • Tight if you're on Starter with more than one account, since it covers just 1

Why Kiwi for Gmail gets a 2.8

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • BValue for moneyStarter shows as $4 a month, low for a category where the middle is about $9. But that's 1 account, and our listing couldn't confirm whether the price is for monthly or annual billing. Several accounts, which is half the point, means Pro at $6 for up to 3 or Power Pro at $8 for up to 9.
  • CFree plan and trialNo free plan. There's a 7-day risk-free trial, which the pricing page states for the yearly plans. Our listing doesn't say whether you hand over a card to start it.
  • BFeaturesIt does one thing: Gmail and Google Workspace as a desktop app, with Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Calendar and Chat in their own windows. The mail itself is still Gmail. The Focus-Filtered Inbox starts on Pro, and Tabbed Workspaces, global keyboard shortcuts and extensions need Power Pro.
  • BEase of useNo rating on record, so a B is our ceiling. It's Gmail, so there's nothing new to learn, and your accounts sit side by side without signing in and out or switching browser profiles.
  • BPlatforms and integrationsMac and Windows, with one license covering both. The site offers no mobile app or web version. Power Pro adds extensions such as Boomerang, Grammarly and Zoom. It only works with Gmail and Google Workspace accounts.
