Bandicam vs Camtasia Snagit

Bandicam

• Windows users recording gameplay with an FPS counter
• Recording lectures, tutorials and online meetings on a PC
• Buyers who prefer a one-time license to a subscription

Camtasia Snagit

• Technical writers and support teams documenting software
• Turning a clicked-through process into a step-by-step guide
• Quick annotated screenshots and short screen recordings

Bandicam

• The free Windows version limits each recording to 5 minutes and watermarks edited or subtitled exports.
• A Personal license is for non-commercial use; organizations must buy the Business & Education license.
• The Mac app is a separate product with its own App Store subscription, and a Windows license does not cover it.
• A Perpetual license covers Bandicam 2027 on one PC and includes one year of technical support.

Camtasia Snagit

• There is no free plan: after the 15-day trial it needs a yearly subscription, and TechSmith does not offer monthly billing.
• Individual subscriptions cannot be transferred; teams that need reassignable seats buy the Business license, priced per user per year.
• Available for Windows and macOS, and some features are tied to one of them, such as time-lapse and printer capture on Windows.
• Video tools stop at trimming and combining clips; TechSmith points people who need fuller editing to Camtasia Editor.

Bandicam

Screen recording modes

Record the full screen, a chosen area or a single window with its own audio, across multiple monitors if needed. Recordings can start and stop on a schedule.

Game recording

A game mode detects the running DirectX, OpenGL or Vulkan game, records it with your voice and can show frames per second while recording.

Webcam and device capture

Overlay a webcam on the screen recording, or capture webcams, smartphones, consoles and other external devices. AI can remove, blur or replace the webcam background.

AI transcription

Transcribes recordings and audio files into text that can be saved as subtitles or a text file. The free version shows only part of the transcript.

Editing, drawing and Smart Zoom

Trim a recording right after capture, draw arrows, shapes and text while recording, and let Smart Zoom zoom in and out automatically around mouse clicks.

Audio recording

Record computer sound and the microphone without the screen, save as MP3 or WAV, and trim the result on a waveform view.

Camtasia Snagit

Screenshots and scrolling capture

Captures a region, window or full screen, and grabs long web pages, documents and spreadsheets in a single scrolling capture.

Step Capture

Records each click as you walk through a process and turns the screenshots into a numbered guide that can be shared.

Annotation and themes

Adds arrows, callouts, shapes, step markers and stamps, and applies a team's colors, fonts and styles through Themes.

Smart Redact

Finds emails, phone numbers and card details in a capture and blurs or blocks them. The analysis runs locally on the device.

Screen recording

Records the screen, webcam, microphone and system audio, then trims or combines clips, removes background noise or exports a GIF.

Library and sharing

A searchable library keeps captures organized, and they can be shared by Screencast link or sent to apps such as Slack and Google Drive.
