How we grade them
| 3.2GPAMissiveVery good | 3.4GPASpikeVery good | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | BStarter is $14 a user a month billed yearly, or $18 monthly. That's above the $9 that's typical for email tools here, though you do get a whole team email app for it. It's capped at 5 users and leaves out rules, integrations, the AI assistant and analytics. Productive, with all of those, is $24. | ATeamspace Team is $4 a member a month billed annually, or $5 monthly, with your own domain, 100 GB each, a Shared Inbox and unlimited Spike AI. Email App Pro is $6. Both are well under what paid email usually starts at. Unlimited addresses in the Email App need Ultimate at $12. |
| Free plan and trial | CNo free plan. The trial is 30 days of the Productive plan with no credit card required, for up to 25 users. Once it ends, a paid plan is required. | BTwo free options. The Email App takes 1 email address, with 60 days of search history and 1 GB for notes and tasks. Teamspace Starter is free for up to 3 members with 15 GB each. Both stop at 10 queries per AI feature. |
| Features | ATeam inboxes next to personal accounts, internal chat attached to each thread, replies written together in real time, and emails turned into tasks. SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and live chat land in the same app. Productive adds up to 1,000 rules and an AI assistant. For a team, that's the whole job. | AChat-style threads, a Priority Inbox, AI that drafts, summarizes and translates, shared notes and tasks, a unified calendar, and video calls people can join from a link. Teamspace adds channels, groups and a Shared Inbox. That's email and team chat in one app. |
| Ease of use | BNo rating on record, so a B is our ceiling. It's one app for shared and personal mail, and it takes Gmail, Microsoft 365, iCloud or any IMAP account. Talking inside the thread means nobody has to learn a forwarding etiquette. | B4.5 from about 4,200 App Store ratings. The Email App sits on top of the Gmail or Microsoft account you already have, and people who don't use Spike just get a regular email, so nobody else has to change a thing. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Productive brings 25+ app integrations, with HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Asana and Zapier among them, plus API and MCP access. Starter has no integrations or API. | BWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, though no Linux app is listed. On the connecting side there's little on record: a WhatsApp integration from the Teamspace Team plan up, and that's about it. |
| Best for | small teams who talk about email, in email | email that reads like a chat |
