Who each one suits
Slite
- Teams that want an internal knowledge base with owned, verified docs
- Companies that want cited AI answers drawn from their own documentation
- Remote teams documenting handbooks, processes and runbooks
You Need A Wiki
- Teams that already keep their documentation in Google Docs
- Small companies that want a wiki without migrating content to a new tool
- Publishing a public knowledge base straight from a Drive folder
Worth knowing
Slite
- There is no free plan: after the 14-day trial, a paid subscription is needed to keep using the workspace.
- The pricing page shows yearly-billed prices only; a monthly plan exists, but its price is not published there.
- The Slite Agent, search across connected tools, OpenID SSO and custom domains for public docs need Pro at $20 per user / month.
- Basic limits each member to 30 AI questions and 30 AI edits a month, 5 GB of storage and 200 MB file uploads.
You Need A Wiki
- It depends on Google Drive and Google Docs: all content lives there and editing happens in the Docs editor.
- The wiki folder has to be shared with a You Need A Wiki service account so its server can act on the files.
- Only 1 user is free; the next tier is $19 a month for up to 10 users, and teams above 75 users must email for a price.
- The site shows monthly prices only, with no annual billing option or free trial of the paid tiers listed.
Key features
Slite
- Collaborative editor
- A real-time editor with comments, mentions, custom templates, recurring scheduled docs and doc history. Docs can be exported as PDF, Markdown or HTML.
- Doc verification and ownership
- Each doc can have an owner and a verification status, and the Knowledge Management Panel lets admins review and act on many docs at once.
- Ask: AI search and answers
- Answers questions with cited sources. Basic searches Slite docs with 30 questions per member a month; Pro and Enterprise search connected tools with 100 per member.
- Slite Agent
- On Pro and Enterprise, an agent watches connected tools, drafts updates to out-of-date docs and routes them to a person for approval. It draws on pooled credits, 50 per seat a month.
- MCP and public API
- Every plan includes a public API and an MCP server, so assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor can search, read and edit docs under the user's permissions.
- Public docs
- Docs can be shared publicly on every plan, with AI answers for readers. Search-engine indexing, custom branding and a custom domain for public docs start on Pro.
You Need A Wiki
- Wiki from existing Drive folders
- Existing Google Drive folders and files are imported into a wiki with a nested tree menu. Changes made in Docs or Drive show up in the wiki, and everything is saved to Drive.
- Google Docs as the editor
- Pages are edited in Google Docs, so live collaboration, suggestions and formatting come from Docs. The wiki shows who last edited a page.
- Search across document content
- Search covers the text inside documents. To speed it up, document content is cached for up to a month, which can be turned off in settings.
- Team, contact and public sharing
- A wiki can be shared with a team or individual contacts or made publicly accessible. Read-only users are unlimited, and a read-only mode guards against accidental edits.
- Custom domain and embedding
- The plans list a custom domain alias, a custom sidebar color and the option to embed a wiki in another page as an iframe.
