How we grade them

Value for money
CA team seat is $19 a month billed annually, and one person alone pays $29, or $49 month to month. A typical planner is about $7.99. You do get projects, docs and a notetaker for that, but AI use is metered at 7,500 credits a seat each month, and Gantt charts and time tracking need Business AI.
B$9 a month, or $23 every three months, which is about $7.67 a month. That's right on the middle for planners, and every feature is included. There's also a Lifetime Early Bird at $149, which the page limits to 10 spots.
Free plan and trial
DNo free plan. There's a 7-day trial, per Motion's App Store listing, but a card is required and it's charged when the trial ends unless you cancel. Motion's terms also say purchases are non-refundable, so set a reminder.
CNo free plan. The 7-day trial needs no card, and when it ends the scheduling automation pauses until you pick a paid plan. The monthly plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee as well.
Features
AA scheduling engine that places tasks by duration, priority and deadline and rebuilds the plan as the day changes, projects and workspaces, sync with Google, Outlook and iCloud calendars, booking links, a notetaker that drafts action items, and AI chat and docs. That's the whole job and then some.
BIt finds your focus windows and puts deep work in them, with OFF, SUGGEST and AUTO modes and a chat that takes requests like moving a review to Thursday. Google Calendar sync runs both ways. But Outlook, Slack, GitHub and Todoist are all marked coming soon.
Ease of use
C4.1 from about 1,900 App Store ratings, which is a C on our ladder, with about one rating in six a single star. The scheduling is automatic, but there's a lot of product around it now: projects, docs, credits and two tiers of plan.
BNo App Store rating on record, so a B is our ceiling. SUGGEST is the default mode, so nothing moves until you say yes, which is a gentle way in. And you can just type what you want into the chat.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It connects to Google Calendar, Outlook, iCloud Calendar, Gmail, Zoom, Google Meet, Slack and Zapier. The iCloud connection has a more limited feature set. There's an API, with engineering support for it on Enterprise.
BIt's a web app, and the site lists no desktop or mobile apps. It connects to Google Calendar, Linear and Notion. If your work calendar is Outlook, you're waiting.

Key features

Motion

Automatic scheduling
A scheduling engine places tasks into openings on your calendar based on duration, priority and deadlines, and rebuilds the plan as the day changes.
Tasks and projects
Tasks sit inside projects and workspaces, and AI can draft a project and its tasks from a description. Timelines and Gantt charts need Business AI.
Calendar sync
Connects Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook (Office 365 and Exchange Online) and iCloud Calendar. The iCloud connection has a more limited feature set.
Booking links
A shareable link lets other people book meetings based on your real-time availability. You set rules for availability, duration, buffers and limits.
AI Notetaker
Captures transcripts from video calls and drafts summaries and action items, which you approve before they become tasks.
AI Chat and Docs
A chat interface creates items and searches workspace data, and collaborative docs include AI drafting. AI use draws on the plan's monthly credits.

Temporal

Focus-aware scheduling
The AI reads where meetings cluster and where the week is open, then places deep-work tasks in the hours it identifies as your focus windows.
OFF, SUGGEST and AUTO modes
Schedule everything by hand, have the AI propose changes that you accept or skip one by one, or let it schedule automatically. SUGGEST is the default.
AI chat
A chat that can see the calendar and task list takes requests in plain language, such as moving a review to Thursday or fitting a set of tasks around meetings.
Google Calendar sync
Sync runs both ways: existing meetings are imported and respected during scheduling, and tasks Temporal schedules appear as events in Google Calendar.
Adaptive rescheduling
When priorities change during the week, the schedule is adjusted automatically rather than replanned by hand.
Linear and Notion connections
Linear and Notion are listed as available integrations, and the FAQ says tasks can be brought in from Notion. Outlook, Slack, GitHub and Todoist are marked as coming soon.
