Who each one suits

Tweek

  • People who plan by the week and do not want an hourly schedule
  • Families and small teams sharing one simple weekly to-do calendar
  • Paper-planner users who want a printable weekly layout

WeekToDo

  • People who want a simple week-at-a-glance task planner
  • Privacy-minded users who want their tasks kept on their own device
  • Linux, Windows and macOS users looking for a free desktop planner

Worth knowing

Tweek

  • The free version is limited to 1 active calendar and 2 custom colors, and leaves out calendar sync, the monthly view, subtasks, recurring tasks and reminders.
  • The 14-day trial applies only to the annual Individual plan. Monthly and Family subscriptions are charged right away.
  • The Family plan is available on the website only, not through the App Store or Google Play.
  • There is no Windows app. The Mac version requires macOS 12 and an Apple M1 chip or later.

WeekToDo

  • There is no sync between devices, no cloud copy of the data and no mobile app. Sync and a mobile version are on the project's roadmap.
  • The latest release on GitHub, version 2.2.0, is dated February 2024.
  • The changelog for version 2.0.0 lists a telemetry system among its additions, while the privacy statement is dated December 2020.
  • The download page says the app is not code-signed, so the first launch needs a workaround.

Key features

Tweek

Week view without hourly slots
The planner opens on a week of day columns where tasks are simply listed and moved around. A day view is included, and the monthly view is part of Premium.
Calendar sync
Premium syncs both ways with Google, Outlook and Apple calendars and with Apple Reminders, which also lets you add tasks by voice through Siri.
Notes, subtasks and attachments
Premium tasks can carry notes, checklists, subtasks, files and photos, so a task can double as a shopping list or a small project.
Recurring tasks and reminders
Premium tasks can repeat daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or on a custom schedule, with reminders by push notification, email or both.
Sharing and publishing
Calendars can be shared for real-time collaboration or published to the web by link. Sharing is free for unlimited users.
Printable planner, API and MCP
The week can be printed as a paper planner. An API, an MCP server and ChatGPT and Claude apps work on the free plan with a lower request quota.

WeekToDo

Week calendar and task list in one
The main screen shows the week as columns of days with each day's tasks under it, so planning and the to-do list share a single interface.
Custom to-do lists
Separate lists hold tasks that are not tied to a day, such as projects, and a setting controls how many list columns are shown.
Sub-tasks and Markdown
A task can be broken into sub-tasks, and its description supports Markdown, with links opening in the web browser.
Recurring tasks and reminders
Tasks can repeat, including on chosen weekdays, and a time and an alarm can be set on a task so it raises a notification.
Drag and drop and task colors
Tasks are moved between days and lists by dragging, and each one can be given a color from the task color picker.
Local storage
The privacy statement says all data is saved locally on the device and never sent to the project's server, and no personal data is collected.
