Best for syncing store and payment sales into your books

Synder pulls sales, fees, refunds and payouts from Stripe, Shopify, Square, Amazon and the rest of its 30+ platforms into QuickBooks or Xero, and matches payouts to the bank feed. It's built for sellers with lots of transactions. But it keeps no books of its own, and it starts at $52 a month billed yearly before you've paid for the ledger.

Who Synder is for

  • Great if you sell through Stripe, Shopify and Amazon and dread reconciling the payouts
  • Handy when a restaurant or shop wants one tidy entry per location per day
  • Good for bookkeepers matching processor payouts to bank feeds for clients

Who Synder is not for

  • Pricey if you're a small seller, as Basic is $52 a month billed yearly on top of your ledger
  • Tight if you pass 500 sales a month or need more than 2 integration slots, the limits on Basic
  • Not for you if you're on NetSuite or Sage Intacct and want a price up front, as both need Pro, sold through sales

Why Synder gets a 1.8

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • DValue for moneyGraded against its own alternatives, as it syncs sales rather than keeping books: Basic is $52 a month billed yearly ($65 monthly) for 500 sales, about twice Dext's $25.21 or Xero's $27, with the ledger paid for on top. Busier sellers start at $103.
  • CFree plan and trialA 15-day free trial with no card needed, long enough to sync a couple of weeks of real sales and check they land in the right accounts. There's no free plan.
  • DFeaturesNext to its alternatives it does one job, and does it fully: sale-by-sale or daily summary sync, fees, sales tax, refunds, payout matching and product mapping. But it needs QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite or Sage Intacct, paid separately, to be useful at all.
  • CEase of useNo store rating on record. Mapping products, customers, accounts and platforms is real setting up, and it's worth getting right, since every sale lands straight in your books.
  • BPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, but it connects 30+ sales platforms, including Stripe, Shopify, PayPal, Square and Amazon, to QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite and Sage Intacct. No phone or desktop app.

Keep Synder, or make your own?

Keep it

To replace Synder you would be making live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 20 of the 20 other accounting and invoicing tools grade higher. It costs $624 a year.

What you could make

  • Reports: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them.
  • It plugs into other products, QuickBooks Online, Xero and NetSuite among them.

What this rests on. Synder’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

What is Synder?

Synder is bookkeeping automation for businesses that sell through payment processors, online stores and point-of-sale systems. It pulls sales, fees, taxes, refunds and payouts from platforms such as Stripe, Shopify, Square and Amazon into QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite or Sage Intacct, either one transaction at a time or as a daily summary per location, and matches payouts to bank feeds for reconciliation.

Synder is a paid product with a free trial, starting at $52 per month for up to 500 sales transactions, billed yearly ($65 billed monthly). See every plan

Good for

  • Online sellers taking payments through several stores and processors
  • Restaurants and shops that want POS sales split by revenue stream
  • Bookkeepers reconciling Stripe, PayPal or Shopify payouts for clients

Worth knowing

  • Synder does not keep the books itself: it posts into QuickBooks, Xero, Puzzle, NetSuite or Sage Intacct, which are paid for separately.
  • Basic stops at 500 sales transactions a month, 2 integration slots and one import a day; on higher plans, volume past the included amount is billed separately.
  • NetSuite, Sage Intacct and premium integrations such as Clover, Walmart and the Synder API need Pro or above, both sold through sales.
  • Historical data import is paid on Basic and Essential, and free for 3 months on Pro and Pro Max; extra users cost a fee.
