Welcome

What these tools do, how many we grade and what to know before choosing

49

AI meeting note takers we grade, from their own pages

Recorders and notepads that transcribe your calls and write up the summary and action items for you.

  1. 1

We grade 49 AI meeting note takers

33 of them are free or have a free plan, and 16 more let you try before paying. Everything in this guide comes from their own pages and our grades.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $10 a month in the middle

From $5.83 (Tiro) to $32 (Claap), going by what each one's paid plans start at.

  3. 3

Nothing on our chart scores higher than these without costing more.

  4. 4

33 of 49 have iPhone and Android apps

37 run in a web browser and 31 have a Windows app. Check the one you need before you fall for anything.

  5. 5

    The middle GPA is 2.6

11 score 3.0 or higher. The highest is HyNote, at 3.4.

  6. 6

    Best free option: HyNote

HyNote has the highest GPA of the free ones, 3.4. AI note taker for meetings, audio, PDFs and videos.

  7. 7

49 worth keeping, 0 you could make

By our keep-or-make rules, 49 do something you couldn't reasonably build yourself, 0 are simple enough to make with an AI app builder, and 0 are a close call.

That's how many price moves we've recorded for AI meeting note takers in twelve months. Prices change, so check the maker's page before you pay.

Part 02 · Top three

Our top three

The three we'd look at first, and who each one suits

The three AI meeting note takers we'd look at first. First place suits the most people; second and third are the best picks for the people it leaves out. Each has an Insider's Guide of its own.

    Fireflies.ai

    Free plan · from $10/mo

    For: Most people

Fireflies.ai records, transcribes and summarizes calls on the web, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, with a Chrome extension. Its notetaker can join a call as a bot, or the Mac and Windows app can capture device audio with no bot in the meeting. Transcription is unlimited on every plan, and Pro, at $10 per seat a month billed annually, makes AI summaries unlimited. Its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.8 from about 5,200 ratings. Know the limits: the Free plan limits AI summaries, stores 400 minutes per team and has no transcript downloads or video recording, Pro is $18 billed monthly, and every teammate added to a paid workspace counts as a paid seat.

  2. 2nd

    2.8GPA

    Fathom

    Free plan · from $15/mo

For: Anyone who wants to pay nothing

Fathom's Free plan lists unlimited recordings, storage and transcription for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls, with an AI summary ready when the call ends, plus clips and playlists. Fireflies' Free plan stores 400 minutes per team. It is second because it runs on fewer devices and costs more to upgrade: it is listed for Mac, Windows and iPhone, there is no Android app, bot-free capture works on Mac only, and Premium, the plan for individuals, is $16 per user a month, billed annually. On the Free plan, advanced summaries cover only the first 5 calls each month, and action items and Ask Fathom have limited use.

    3.0GPA

    Granola

    Free plan · from $14/mo

For: People who want notes without a bot in the call

Granola transcribes from your device's microphone and system audio, so no bot joins, and it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or other call software. Type rough notes during the call and it expands them into a full write-up. It runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 5.0 from about 14,000 ratings. The free Basic plan has no daily transcription limit. It is third because Basic shows only the last 30 days of notes, where Fathom's Free plan lists unlimited storage, and there is no web app or browser extension. Business, at $14 per user a month, is billed monthly only, and the Mac app needs macOS 14 or later.

Part 05 · Keep or make

Keep or make?

Which are worth paying for, and which you could make yourself

0

Simple enough to make yourself, of 49

Some software does something you couldn’t reasonably build yourself. Some is simple enough that an AI app builder could make the core of it in an afternoon. Here’s where AI meeting note takers land, by the same rules for every tool.

  • 49

    Keep it

It does something you could not reasonably make for yourself, or it costs nothing.

  • 0

    Your call

You could make the core of it, and you would give something up.

  • 0

    You could make this

What it does is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well, and it charges every month.

Worth keeping

  • HyNote

To replace HyNote you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • Wave AI

To replace Wave AI you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • Fireflies.ai

To replace Fireflies.ai you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

  • Circleback

To replace Circleback you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
