Who each one suits

Meetily

  • People whose meetings cannot be sent to a cloud notetaker
  • Developers who want MIT-licensed code and local models
  • Teams that do not allow recording bots in their calls

Slipbox

  • Mac users who want transcription kept on their own machine
  • Unlimited transcription without paying
  • Obsidian users who want meetings exported as Markdown

Worth knowing

Meetily

  • Desktop only: Windows 10 or later and Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 11 or later. Intel Macs are not supported, and on Linux it must be built from source.
  • Speaker identification, custom templates, PDF and DOCX export, Windows GPU acceleration and the MCP server, CLI and webhooks all need Pro.
  • Each Pro license covers one device for one year, and the pricing page lists Pro with yearly billing only.
  • There are no built-in connectors for apps such as Notion or Jira, and chat with your meetings and calendar integration are marked as coming soon.

Slipbox

  • The desktop app runs on Apple Silicon Macs only; the FAQ says Windows support is being tested with select users.
  • The free plan limits AI use to 10 Ask Slipbox messages and 5 summaries every 2 weeks.
  • Transcripts and chat messages are sent through Slipbox's servers to AI models for summaries and answers; the vendor says they are not stored there.
  • Notes are stored on the Mac with no cloud backup yet, and speaker identification is an Early Access feature that has to be switched on.

Key features

Meetily

Bot-free recording
Captures system audio on the computer instead of sending a bot into the call, so it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Slack Huddles and Webex.
On-device transcription
Whisper and Parakeet models transcribe in real time on your machine, and audio is not uploaded. Pro adds GPU acceleration on Windows with an NVIDIA card.
Summaries from the AI you choose
Summaries run on a local Ollama model or on your own key for Claude, OpenAI, Groq, OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. With your own key, only transcript text is sent.
Speaker identification
A Pro feature that labels who said what, live and on imported audio. Renaming a speaker once updates the whole transcript, and duplicate speakers can be merged.
Templates and exports
Pro includes 6 built-in summary templates plus your own, and exports transcripts and summaries to PDF, DOCX and Markdown. Community uses the default template.
MCP server, CLI and webhooks
Pro ships an MCP server, a command-line tool, a local API and signed webhooks, so assistants such as Claude or Cursor and your own scripts can search and export meetings. Off by default.

Slipbox

Local transcription, no bot
Slipbox captures the Mac's system audio and microphone and transcribes on the device, so Zoom, Meet, Teams and iPhone calls routed through the Mac are covered without a meeting bot.
Automatic meeting detection
The app recognizes when a meeting starts and ends and begins or stops transcribing on its own, on every plan including the free one.
Ask Slipbox during a meeting
A chat can catch you up, summarize on the fly or suggest questions to ask while the conversation continues. The free plan allows 10 messages every 2 weeks.
Summaries from templates
Slipbox picks a template such as 1:1, customer meeting, podcast or presentation for each summary, and custom templates can be added. Pro writes summaries automatically when meetings end.
Bring your own key
AI features can run on your own OpenAI API key or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including local models served through Ollama or LM Studio.
Import, search and export
MP4, MOV, MP3 and WAV files can be imported for transcription. Meetings are searchable in natural language and export automatically to PDF, Markdown or Obsidian.
