How we grade them

2.8GPAIn Your FaceGood3.0GPAMeetingBarVery good
Value for money
B$24.99 a year, or $3.99 a month. That's low for this category, but it buys one job where rivals at that price are whole calendars, so call it fair. The $69 one-time license covers only the direct-download desktop version.
AFree and open source under the Apache 2.0 license. The Mac App Store lists patronage purchases of $2.99, $5.99 and $11.99, but those are optional thank-yous, not unlocks.
Free plan and trial
CNo free plan. The trial gives you a limited number of alerts, and when they're used up the app shows none until you subscribe or buy a license. The listing doesn't say whether the trial asks for a card.
AThe product is free, with every feature included. There's no paid plan at all, so nothing sits behind a wall. The other side of that coin: no paid support either.
Features
BOne job, done fully: full-screen alerts, a join button for more than 60 video call services, calendar filters, per-event settings and a pause while you share your screen. It can't read calendars held in Outlook, Fantastical or BusyCal, though.
BOne job, done fully: it spots links for more than 50 meeting services, joins by click or global shortcut, and can warn you with a full-screen reminder. It works with Apple Shortcuts and AppleScript too. But the menu covers today and tomorrow only, so it's no calendar.
Ease of use
BInstall it, point it at your calendars and it alerts you a minute before each event by default. We have no App Store rating on record to show how people get on with it, so it stops at a B.
BInstall it from the Mac App Store, Homebrew or GitHub and it reads the calendars already on your Mac, or connects straight to Google Calendar. There's no App Store rating on record, so it stops at a B.
Platforms and integrations
BMac, Windows, iPhone and iPad, with alerts on Apple Watch, and it connects straight to Google and Microsoft accounts. No Android or web version is listed, and the iPhone and iPad app needs iOS 26 or later.
DMac only, and it needs macOS 12.0 or later. It reads the macOS Calendar app or Google Calendar directly, and Exchange and Office 365 have to go through Calendar.app. No iPhone, Windows or web version.

Worth knowing

In Your Face

  • There is no free plan: once the trial's free alerts are used, the app shows no alerts until you subscribe or buy a license.
  • On Mac, website license keys work only with the direct-download version; App Store versions use Apple's in-app purchases.
  • It cannot read calendars held in Microsoft Outlook, Fantastical or BusyCal; Google and Microsoft accounts are connected directly instead.
  • The site lists Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only, and the iPhone and iPad app requires iOS 26 or later.

MeetingBar

  • Mac only, and it requires macOS 12.0 or later.
  • It is a meeting launcher more than a full calendar: the menu lists events from today and tomorrow only.
  • Only two calendar sources are supported: the macOS Calendar app and a direct Google Calendar connection. Exchange and Office 365 go through Calendar.app.
  • Development is community-supported through donations; there is no paid plan or paid support.

Key features

In Your Face

Full-screen alerts
An alert takes over the screen before each event, one minute ahead by default or at a time you set. Alerts can also adjust for travel time when the event includes it.
Join calls from the alert
The app detects video conference links in calendar events for more than 60 services, including Zoom, Teams and Meet, and opens the call from the alert or the event list.
Calendar accounts and filters
On Mac and Windows it connects directly to Google and Microsoft accounts; on Apple devices it also uses the calendars in Apple Calendar. Filters limit alerts to the calendars and events you choose.
Custom reminders
Set a reminder for something that has no calendar event, and get the same full-screen alert for time-critical Apple Reminders.
Per-event settings, pausing and themes
Override the default alert for an individual event, pause alerts while sharing your screen, pick alert sounds and change how alerts look with themes.
Menu bar, widgets and Apple Watch
The Mac app lives in the menu bar with upcoming events and has desktop widgets, the Windows app sits in the tray, and the iPhone app can send alerts to an Apple Watch.

MeetingBar

Next meeting in the menu bar
The status bar shows the current or next meeting with its title, time, countdown or service icon, and long titles can be shortened. The menu lists events from today and tomorrow.
Join in one click or keystroke
Join the current or next online meeting from the menu or with a global keyboard shortcut. Links can open in a chosen browser or in the service's own app, set per service.
More than 50 meeting services
Detects meeting links in calendar events for Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Discord, Jitsi, Slack Huddle, FaceTime and many others.
Notifications and full-screen reminders
Sends macOS notifications ahead of meetings and can show a full-screen reminder when one starts. All-day, declined, tentative, pending or linkless events can be filtered out.
Create meetings and bookmarks
Starts an ad-hoc meeting in your preferred meeting service, and keeps bookmarks for recurring meeting links so they can be opened quickly.
Shortcuts and AppleScript
Works with Apple Shortcuts and AppleScript, and can run a custom script when you join a meeting, for example to pause music. Raycast script commands are available.
