Cozi review

3.0GPA

Very good · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 9, 2026

Best for busy families sharing one calendar

Cozi puts the family calendar, the shopping list, the chores and tonight's dinner in one app everybody shares. Families stay on it for years, and $39 a year covers all of you. But the free version has ads and only lets you plan 30 days ahead, and it won't properly sync with Google or Apple calendars.

Who Cozi is for

  • Great if you want one calendar the whole family can see, colour-coded by person
  • Handy when whoever's at the shop needs the list the rest of you just added to
  • Good for planning dinners, since a recipe's ingredients go straight onto the shopping list
  • A treat if there are lots of you, because one $39 subscription covers up to 12 people

Who Cozi is not for

  • Skip it if you want two-way sync with Google or Apple Calendar, since the feeds are read-only
  • Tight if you're staying free and book things more than 30 days ahead
  • Not for you if the kids shouldn't be able to change everything, as access is all or nothing
  • Too light for work teams, with one shared password and no file attachments

Why Cozi gets a 3.0

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • BValue for money$39 a year covers the whole family, up to 12 people, which is cheap. But part of what it unlocks, like month view on your phone and planning past 30 days, is stuff free calendars give you anyway.
  • BFree plan and trialThe calendar, lists and recipes are free for everyone in the family. But there are ads, one reminder per person, and you can only add events for the next 30 days. That last one stings.
  • BFeaturesA colour-coded calendar, shopping and to-do lists, chores, recipes and a meal planner, all shared. But other calendars only connect as read-only feeds, and you can't attach a photo or file to an event.
  • AEase of use4.8 from about 400,000 App Store ratings. One mum says her teenage daughter suggested it and they were both hooked in three days. Another family had the babysitter enter the whole summer.
  • CPlatforms and integrationsiPhone, Android and any browser, which covers most families. But there's no desktop app, and links to Google, Outlook and Apple calendars are one-way feeds that can lag by hours.

The good

What's Cozi for? Family logistics. Who's at football, who's doing pickup, what's for dinner, and are we out of milk.

Everyone gets a colour, up to 12 of you. Look at the calendar and you see the whole family at once, or filter it down to one person.

The lists might be the best part. Somebody adds "milk" at home and it shows up on the phone of whoever's at the shop. Reviewers bring this up almost as much as the calendar.

Recipes plug in too. Save a recipe, put it on Thursday, and send its ingredients to the shopping list.

It'll also email everyone an agenda, daily or weekly. Handy for the one person who never opens the app.

And one account covers all of you, on every phone and computer. No counting seats.

The stuff that'll bug you

The free version is stingier than it looks, because you can only add events for the next 30 days. The dentist appointment in six weeks? You can't put it in yet.

Free also has ads, one reminder per person, and no month view on your phone. Charging for month view feels a bit much to us.

Syncing with other calendars is one-way. Cozi can show your Google, Outlook or Apple calendar, and they can show Cozi, but only as read-only feeds. Changes take about an hour to reach Cozi and can take a day or more going the other way.

There's one password for the whole family. Each person signs in with their own email, but the password is shared, and everybody can change or delete anything. There's no "look but don't touch" setting for the kids.

And a 2024 redesign of the month view upset one family who'd paid for Gold for six years. They said it now shows only two events a day.

Money

Free gets you the shared calendar, the lists and the recipes, with ads.

Gold is $39 a year, and that's for the whole family, not per person. It takes away the ads and the 30-day limit. It also adds month view on phones, calendar search, up to three reminders per event, change notifications and a birthday tracker.

Max is $79 a year. That's Gold plus three AI tools: one reads invitations in your email and adds them to the calendar, one comes up with recipes, one plans your meals.

Would we pay for Max? Not at first. Gold fixes the things that annoy people, and Max is for families drowning in school emails.

A tip: start Gold on Cozi's website, not in the app. The two-week free trial only exists on the web.

Spread over a year, Gold is $3.25 a month for the whole house. That's fair.

What actual users say

Cozi has 4.8 on the App Store from about 400,000 ratings. That's a lot of happy parents.

What stands out is how long people stay. Four years, six years, nearly ten. One family of three generations, eight people and a family business, runs everything through it.

What do they praise? The shared shopping list, mostly, and seeing where everyone is without phoning them. One mum says her teenage daughter suggested it, and they were hooked in three days.

The grumbles are small frictions. Things are easy to do and fiddly to undo, like clearing a recipe's ingredients off the list one at a time. And a 2017 reviewer wanted ticked items to drop to the bottom, which Cozi now does, but only on Gold.

One reviewer would rather pay once than every year. That was back in 2017, and it's still a yearly plan.

Hacker News barely mentions it. Makes sense. It's an app for families, not for programmers.

What this review rests on. Based on Cozi's home, plans, Gold, calendar, FAQ and other-calendars pages as of 9 October 2026, its App Store reviews and the two Hacker News comments that mention it.
