How we grade them
| 4.0GPAClockifyExcellent | 3.6GPAMy HoursExcellent | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | ABasic is $3.99 a seat a month billed annually, or $4.99 monthly, which is under what most time trackers start at. Even Pro, with scheduling, expenses and GPS, is $7.99. Don't hold out for a deal: Clockify says 20% off for annual billing is the only discount. | BBasic is $4 a user a month billed annually, which is cheap, but it adds little beyond Free: API access, an attendance report, bulk edits. The things agencies want are on Pro at $8 a user, which is what time trackers typically cost. |
| Free plan and trial | AFree for up to 5 users with no cap on tracked time: timer, timesheet, calendar, auto tracker and Pomodoro timer. A small team could stay here for good. Reports only cover a 1-month range, though, and export as PDF only. | AFree for up to 5 active users, with the timer, timesheets, unlimited projects, tasks and clients, a billable rate per project, expenses and PDF reports. A freelancer or a small team could stay here for good. No API access, though. |
| Features | AA timer, a weekly timesheet, a calendar and an auto tracker that logs the apps and sites you were in. Then a clock-in kiosk, invoicing, time off, approvals, scheduling, expenses and GPS tracking as you go up the plans. That's the whole job. | ATimer or timesheet entry, clients, projects and tasks, billable rates, hour and cost budgets with email alerts, timesheet approvals with a 90-day audit log, and invoices from billable time. That's the whole job. It leaves out screenshots and GPS on purpose. |
| Ease of use | A4.6 from about 4,400 App Store ratings. Start a timer or type your hours into a timesheet. There's not much more to it than that. | BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. Start a stopwatch or fill in the week, and that's about it. The desktop app is really a web app installed from your browser, so it needs an internet connection. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWeb, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and a browser extension. It hooks into Jira, Asana, Trello, QuickBooks, Xero and Zapier, and there's a public API. | AWeb, iOS, Android and a browser extension, with an API from Basic up and links to Jira, Asana, Basecamp, ClickUp, QuickBooks, Xero and Zapier. On a computer, the app is one you install from Chrome, Edge or Safari. |

Key features
Clockify
- Timer, timesheet and calendar
- Start and stop a timer, enter hours by hand, fill in a weekly timesheet or block out time on a calendar that shows Outlook and Google Calendar events.
- Auto tracker
- Records the time you spend in apps, websites and documents on a timeline that only you can see, and lets you turn those records into time entries.
- Reports and rates
- Summary, detailed and weekly reports break down tracked time. Billable rates start on Basic, and labor cost and profit reports need Pro.
- Kiosk
- From Basic, staff can clock in with a PIN on a shared device. QR code sign-in is on Standard and photo capture on Pro. Kiosk-only seats start at $0.79 a month, billed annually.
- Invoicing, time off and approvals
- Standard adds invoices built from tracked time and expenses, time-off policies and balances, and manager approval and locking of timesheets.
- Scheduling and location
- Pro adds a scheduling timeline for assignments and capacity, project forecasting, expense recording and optional GPS tracking of visited job sites.
My Hours
- Timer or timesheet entry
- Start a stopwatch or fill in a daily or weekly timesheet. Each log can carry a description, attachments and expenses, and can be copied or restarted.
- Clients, projects and tasks
- Every plan allows unlimited projects, tasks and clients, with task templates and projects assigned to users. Assigning tasks to users needs Pro.
- Billable rates and budgets
- The Free and Basic plans set one billable rate per project. Pro adds rates per user or task, labor costs, profit and loss, and hour or cost budgets with email alerts.
- Reports
- Dashboard, detailed and timesheet reports can be filtered, downloaded as PDF and emailed. Scheduled reports, Excel exports and your own logo on PDFs need Pro.
- Timesheet approvals
- On Pro, managers approve or reject submitted timesheets, logs lock automatically after each period, and an audit log keeps 90 days of changes.
