Who each one suits

Google Forms

  • Quick polls, event registrations and quizzes at no cost
  • Teams on Google Workspace that analyze responses in Google Sheets
  • Teachers building quizzes with answer keys and point values

Tally

  • People who want unlimited forms and submissions without paying
  • Notion users who like building a page out of blocks
  • Small teams that need unbranded forms on their own domain

Worth knowing

Google Forms

  • There is no standalone paid Forms plan; the business version comes only inside Google Workspace, with Gmail, Drive and Meet.
  • Google's help pages describe using Forms in a mobile web browser on Android, iPhone and iPad; no dedicated mobile app is listed.
  • File upload questions require respondents to sign in to a Google Account and cannot be used on forms stored in a shared drive.
  • Help me create a form is desktop-only, cannot yet build multi-section forms, and needs Business Standard or higher or a Google AI plan.

Tally

  • Removing Tally branding, custom domains and team collaboration all require Pro.
  • Partial submissions, drop-off analytics and the Google Analytics and Meta Pixel integrations are paid features.
  • The free plan limits file uploads to 10 MB per file.
  • Free use falls under a fair use policy: sustained volumes around 50,000 submissions a month lead to a custom plan.

Key features

Google Forms

Drag-and-drop form editor
Choose from multiple question types, reorder them by dragging, and add images or videos. File upload questions save submissions to a folder in the owner's Google Drive.
Answer-based logic
Show questions based on earlier answers, so each respondent only goes through the sections that apply to them.
Quizzes with answer keys
Turn a form into a quiz with point values and answer keys on supported question types, and attach a written or YouTube explanation to an answer.
Response charts and Google Sheets
Answers are charted in a Summary tab as they arrive and can be stored in a new or existing Google Sheet for deeper analysis.
Templates and themes
Start from premade survey and questionnaire templates, then set colors, images and fonts to match an organization's branding.
Help me create a form
Gemini drafts a form from a prompt or from Drive files such as Docs, Sheets, Slides and PDFs. It works on desktop and needs an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan.

Tally

Document-style editor
Type questions onto a page as in a text document and insert input blocks for contact details, ratings, rankings, dates, file uploads and more.
Conditional logic and calculations
Show or hide blocks, branch respondents and use variables to calculate values, scores and prices. Both are part of the free plan.
Payments and signatures
Build checkout forms that accept payments and collect e-signatures. The pricing page lists both among the free features.
Hidden fields and answer piping
Pass data into a form through URL parameters, pre-fill fields with known details, and mention earlier answers in later questions.
Embeds, popups and custom domains
Embed forms in a website or a Notion page, show them as popups or share a link. Hosting forms on a custom domain or subdomain needs Pro.
Integrations and webhooks
Send submissions to Notion, Google Sheets, Airtable, Slack or Coda, post events to webhooks, or reach other tools through Zapier, Make or Pipedream.
