Value for money
AFree to download under the GNU GPL, extensions included. The only cost is your own hosting, if you don't have some already. The developer takes donations.
AFree and open source under the GNU GPL, and the project sells no plans at all. What it costs is a machine to run it on. If you'd rather not, the principal maintainer's company runs a hosted instance, TaskItIn, at €3 a month.
Free plan and trial
AThe full script is free, with no paid version and nothing held back. It's been going since 2009, with a release as recent as September 2026.
AThe complete application is free, for as many users as the admin adds. There's no paid edition, so nothing is locked. Download the source or use Docker and it's all yours.
Features
BLists in tabs, tags, due dates, four priority levels, Markdown notes, and a one-line syntax that sets them as you type. Lists can be published read-only, followed by RSS or exported to CSV and iCalendar. Protection is one shared password, not separate accounts.
BSolid GTD basics: contexts, projects, free-form tags, stars, due dates on a traffic-light background and a tickler. A statistics page shows your most productive days. But the latest stable release, 2.7.1, dates from July 2024 and was primarily a security release.
Ease of use
DYou have to host it yourself. That means a web server with PHP and a MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite database before you add your first task. Fine if you already run a website, a wall if you don't.

Platforms and integrations

Worth knowing

myTinyTodo

  • There are no native mobile or desktop apps; phones use the same responsive web page.
  • Protection is a single password set in settings rather than separate accounts for each person.
  • Internet Explorer and the Presto-based Opera are not supported.

Tracks

  • Running Tracks yourself takes a server with Ruby and a MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite database, or a Docker setup.
  • The latest stable release, 2.7.1, is dated July 25, 2024 and was primarily a security release.
  • There are no native phone apps. Phones use a lightweight mobile web interface, and the only client listed is for SailfishOS.

Key features

myTinyTodo

Multiple lists in tabs
Each list is a tab with its own URL. Tabs can be reordered or hidden, and a special tab shows the tasks from every list together.
Smart syntax
A task typed as "+1 Task #Tag1 #Tag2 @monday" is created with its priority, tags and due date already set. Due dates accept forms such as @1d or @25.12.
Tags, priorities and sorting
Tasks take tags, due dates and a priority from -1 to +2. A tag cloud filters the list, search finds tasks, and sorting includes manual drag-and-drop and reverse order.
Notes with Markdown
Each task can carry a note, and notes support Markdown syntax, including #NUMBER links to other tasks by id. Markdown can be turned off in settings.
Publishing, feeds and export
A list can be published for read-only viewing, followed as an RSS feed, or exported to CSV and iCalendar. A password in settings keeps others from changing tasks.
Extensions
Extensions listed in the changelog add notifications by e-mail and Telegram, backups to XML with restore, an updater and custom CSS.

Tracks

Contexts and projects
The home page lists next actions sorted by context, and separate pages show one context or one project. Projects and contexts can be reordered by dragging and hidden from the home page.
Tags and stars
Actions take free-form tags, each with its own page of matching actions, and a star icon marks actions to pull onto a starred page.
Due dates and a tickler
Optional due dates are shown on a traffic-light colored background by how close they are. The tickler schedules an action to appear on the home page only after a future date.
Multiple private users
Each user has their own contexts, projects, actions and preferences behind a login. Only the admin can add or delete accounts, so visitors cannot sign themselves up.
Statistics
A statistics page shows the average time taken to complete actions, how many were completed in the past month or year, and which days of the week are the most productive.
Feeds, exports and API
Next actions are available as text, iCal and RSS feeds, data exports to YAML, CSV or XML, and an API lets scripts read and write tasks. A lightweight mobile web interface is included.
