3.4GPAGoogle Analytics
Free plan
For: Most website owners
Google Analytics shows where visitors come from, which pages they view and which campaigns lead to sales or sign-ups, with funnel and path explorations, data-driven attribution, and links to Google Ads, Search Console and BigQuery. The standard version is free for sites and apps of any size. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.6 from about 5,200 ratings. Know the limits: it does not record visits, user- and event-level data is kept for 14 months at most, and data within the hour and longer history are Analytics 360 features, priced through Google's sales team.
The Google Analytics Insider’s Guide2nd
3.2GPAPostHog
Free plan · from $0.00005
For: Product teams and developers measuring an app or site
PostHog puts product and web analytics, session recordings, feature flags, A/B tests, surveys and error tracking under one sign-up. Each has a free allowance that resets monthly: 1M events, 5,000 recordings and 1,500 survey responses, with unlimited members. Past it you pay per use from $0.00005 an event, with a spending limit per product, and the code is open source. It is second because it takes more learning than a page counter and the free plan has edges: 1 project, recordings kept a month, SSO only with the $250-a-month Boost package, and self-hosting officially unsupported. Amplitude's free plan allows 2M events but only 10 saved charts.
The PostHog Insider’s Guide3rd
2.4GPAPlausible
Free plan · from $7.50/mo
For: Site owners who want visitor counts without cookies
Plausible counts visits without cookies or personal data, so the vendor says no cookie banner is needed, and shows visitors, sources, pages, goals and campaigns on one page, processed on EU-owned servers in Germany. Starter is $7.50 a month billed yearly for one site and up to 10k pageviews, or $19 a month at 100k billed monthly, after a 30-day trial with no card, and the free Community Edition runs on your own server. It is third because it does a smaller job: there are no recordings or per-visitor profiles, funnels and ecommerce revenue start on Business, and there is no free hosted plan.

Part 05 · Keep or make
Keep or make?
Which are worth paying for, and which you could make yourself
0
Simple enough to make yourself, of 14
Some software does something you couldn’t reasonably build yourself. Some is simple enough that an AI app builder could make the core of it in an afternoon. Here’s where website and product analytics tools land, by the same rules for every tool.
14
Keep it
It does something you could not reasonably make for yourself, or it costs nothing.
0
Your call
You could make the core of it, and you would give something up.
0
You could make this
What it does is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well, and it charges every month.
