How we grade them

3.2GPAFlaskVery good3.0GPAWeDoVery good
Value for money
AFree, all of it. The site lists no paid plan, just a Buy Me a Coffee link if you feel like chipping in.
CPremium Family is $5.99 a month, or $49.99 a year, above what paid to-do apps typically start at. And it buys extras: widgets, pinned tasks, pre-reminders and Premium themes. The web version needs the Pro Plan at $9.49 a month or $94.99 a year. Dear for what you get.
Free plan and trial
AEvery feature is free, and you don't even need an account for your first list. Signing up, which is also free, is only for saving more than one.
AThe part that matters is free: shared lists that sync in real time, category tabs, notifications and reminders. Most couples and families could stay here. The trade is ads, which both store listings flag.
Features
CAdd, edit, reorder, star, colour-tag and tick off tasks, then share, email or embed the list. That's the lot, and it's meant to be. Still, it's thin for a to-do app, and sharing has no permission settings.
BLists update for everyone the moment an item is added or ticked, members get notified, and due dates can repeat. Tabs like Groceries and Home can be private or shared. Solid for sharing. But widgets are Premium, the web board is Pro, and no integrations are listed.
Ease of use
BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. It'd be hard to make starting any easier, mind. A new list opens straight from the home page and you just type.
BSomeone joins by scanning a QR code or opening a link, and the site says the invited person doesn't need to sign up. That's about as painless as sharing gets. There's no rating on record to go by, so it stops at a B.
Platforms and integrations
BIt runs in any browser, with a layout that adapts to phones, and developers can ask for API access by email. No native apps are offered, and there's no public API documentation.
BiPhone and Android, plus a web version if you pay for Pro. The App Store marks it as only for iPhone, so there's no native iPad, Mac or Windows app, and it lists no integrations.

Who each one suits

Flask

  • A quick shared list with no accounts or setup
  • Shopping, packing and wish lists passed around as a link
  • People who want a to-do list with very few features

WeDo

  • Couples and families sharing a grocery list or chores
  • Getting a push notification when a partner adds or completes a task
  • Small teams that want a shared board in the browser on the Pro Plan

Worth knowing

Flask

  • Sharing has no permission settings: a list is shared by its URL, with no invites.
  • It is browser only. The About page asks developers who want to help build a mobile app to get in touch, and no native apps are offered.
  • The terms of use mention a paid PRO account, but the /pro page they point to returns a not-found page and the site lists no paid plan.
  • API access is given on request by email; the site has no public API documentation.

WeDo

  • The free app contains ads, according to its App Store and Google Play listings.
  • Widgets, pinned tasks, pre-reminders and multiple images on a task are limited to Premium users.
  • WeDo for Web needs the Pro Plan, at $9.49 per month or $94.99 per year on the US App Store.
  • The App Store marks the app as only for iPhone, and there is no native iPad, Mac or Windows app.

Key features

Flask

No sign-up to start
A new list opens straight from the homepage and tasks can be added at once. An account is only needed to save and manage more than one list.
Sharing by URL
Each list has its own address, and copying that address is the whole sharing step. There are no permissions and no formal invites.
Task basics
Tasks can be added, edited, reordered, checked off and deleted, starred, and tagged with colors.
Email and embed
The changelog on the About page lists emailing a list and embedding a list among the features added in 2013.
Any device with a browser
The app is browser based with a responsive design for phones, so there is nothing to install and lists are the same on every device.
API on request
The About page offers developers access to an API by email, for uses such as adding to-do lists to another product.

WeDo

Real-time shared lists
Tasks update for everyone in a group as soon as someone adds or checks off an item, with no refresh needed.
Notifications and reminders
Members are notified when a task is added or completed. A task with a due date and time sends a reminder to the chosen members, and due dates can repeat.
Category tabs
Lists are split into tabs such as Groceries, Home and Wishlist, some private and some shared, and switched by swiping.
Invites by QR code or link
A group is joined by scanning a QR code or opening an invitation link. The site says the invited person does not need to sign up to join a list.
WeDo for Web
A browser version lays out the team's tasks side by side, shows progress by assignee and keeps an activity feed. It requires a Pro Plan subscription.
Widgets and themes
Home screen widgets show the tasks of a chosen category or today's tasks for Premium users, and the app offers color themes and dark mode.
