How we grade them
| 3.2GPAEngageBayVery good | 3.4GPAHubSpotVery good | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | CBasic looks cheap at $13.79 a user a month billed yearly, but it holds only 500 contacts. The automation you'd buy a suite like this for starts on Growth at $59.79, with 5,000 contacts and 10 workflows. The very lowest rates need a two-year term. | CStarter is fair at $20 a seat, and new customers get it from $7. Then it jumps. Sales Hub Professional is $90 a seat plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee, when Zoho CRM starts at $14 a user. |
| Free plan and trial | BFree for up to 15 users, with the CRM, helpdesk, live chat, a landing page and 2 email sequences. That's a lot of tools for nothing. But 250 contacts and 1,000 branded emails won't last a growing business long. | AFree with no end date for 2 users and 1,000 contacts: deal pipelines, email tracking, live chat, a meeting link and dashboards. Zoho CRM's free plan holds more, with 3 users and 5,000 records, but HubSpot's does more. |
| Features | AContacts, deal pipelines, email broadcasts, sequences, landing pages, automation workflows, a ticket desk, live chat, booking links and an AI chatbot. Marketing, sales and support really are all here. Workflows start on Growth, capped at 10 there and 100 on Pro. | AA CRM with marketing, sales, service and content tools all reading from one customer record. Email tracking, calling, workflows, dashboards and an AI assistant. You'll run out of time before you run out of features. |
| Ease of use | BThere's no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is our ceiling. One login for marketing, sales and support saves stitching three tools together. It's also sold as separate Marketing, CRM & Sales and Service products, so there's some working out which you need. | B4.7 from about 15,700 App Store ratings, and it runs in a browser with nothing to install. Starting is easy. Working out the bundles, hubs, seats and credits is not, and Sales Hub Professional makes you buy onboarding. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWeb, iPhone and Android. It connects to Zapier, Shopify, Stripe, Xero, Twilio, Slack, Mailchimp and WhatsApp, and there's a REST API with webhooks. API calls are capped each month, from 500 on Free to 75,000 on Pro. | AWeb, iPhone and Android, a Chrome extension for Gmail and an add-in for Outlook. More than 2,000 integrations and an API. There's no desktop app, but it lives in a browser tab, so we doubt you'd miss one. |
| Best for | small teams wanting marketing, sales and support | small businesses starting with a free CRM |

- Buyers who would otherwise pay for a CRM and an email tool separately
HubSpot

Worth knowing
EngageBay
- All-in-One plans cap contacts: 250 on Free, 500 on Basic, 5,000 on Growth and 10,000 on Pro.
- The pricing page lists marketing automation from the Growth plan, which allows 10 workflows of up to 15 nodes each.
- Prices here are for the All-in-One suite. The CRM & Sales Bay alone is $11.95, $45.99 or $73.59 per user / month, billed yearly.
- The lowest advertised rates need a two-year (biennial) term, which takes 15% off the monthly prices.
HubSpot
- The free tools stop at 2 users and 1,000 contacts, and free live chat and marketing emails carry HubSpot branding.
- Sales Hub Professional and Enterprise each require a one-time onboarding fee ($1,500 and $3,500) on top of the seat price.
- Paid tiers are split across a Starter bundle, Smart CRM and separate hubs, so the total depends on which products and how many seats you buy.
- The $7 Starter price is a limited-time offer for new customers against a $20 list price, and HubSpot's CRM product page shows a different new-customer price, from $15 per seat.
