Value for money
CStarter is $10.99 a user a month billed annually, or $13.49 monthly, which is above the dear end of this category. Seats come in fixed steps too, in blocks of 5 once you pass 5 users. Goals, portfolios and time tracking need Advanced at $24.99.
CStarter is €9 per user a month paid yearly, €10.80 monthly, and it's capped at 10 users and 3 rooms. Outgrow either and it's Business at €14 for the same features. Group video calls and whiteboards wait for Premium at €18. That's above the going rate, and prices exclude VAT.
Free plan and trial
BThe Personal plan is free with unlimited tasks and projects, list, board and calendar views and 100+ integrations. Lovely for one person. But it stops at 2 users, so most teams can't stay on it.
CNo free plan. The trial is 14 days with the Premium feature set and no credit card, and it ends automatically, so there's nothing to cancel.
Features
AList, board, calendar, timeline and Gantt views, rules that automate routine steps, forms that turn requests into tasks, dashboards, and goals and portfolios on Advanced. AI Studio builds workflows from a monthly credit pool. The whole job, with depth.
ATasks as a list, a kanban board with swimlanes, a Gantt chart or a calendar, with dependencies, baselines and a critical path on every plan. Add team chat, one-to-one calls, wiki pages, files with versioning, time tracking and reports, all end-to-end encrypted.
Ease of use
A4.7 from about 15,700 App Store ratings. The same project can be a list, a board or a calendar, so each person gets the view that makes sense to them.
BNo app rating on record, so a B at best. The cloud version is hosted for you, and the encrypting is done in the browser as you work. Everything hangs off rooms, which bundle chat, tasks, pages and files together.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, though there's no Linux app. It connects to Slack, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, Jira Cloud, GitHub, Zoom and Figma, and there's a public API.
AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It hooks into Microsoft Teams, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive and Box, and Enterprise adds user provisioning through an API. There's an on-premise version too, though only from 100 users.

Key features

Asana

Project views
Show a project as a list, board, calendar, timeline or Gantt chart. Timeline and Gantt views start on the Starter plan.
Rules and forms
Rules automate routine steps and forms turn incoming requests into tasks. Both start on Starter; form branching needs Advanced.
Goals and portfolios
Goals link projects and tasks to company-level objectives, and portfolios track groups of related projects in one place. Both are part of the Advanced plan.
Workload and resource management
Shows how much work each person has so tasks can be rebalanced. Capacity planning across the organization is an Enterprise feature.
Reporting dashboards
Charts built from live project data to show the state of a team's work, included from the Starter plan.
AI Teammates and AI Studio
AI Studio builds AI-driven workflows from a monthly credit pool: 50K credits on Starter, 75K on Advanced and 200K on Enterprise. Extra AI requests are billed per request.

Stackfield

Tasks in list, kanban and Gantt views
Tasks carry due dates, assignees, subtasks, custom fields and customizable statuses, and appear as a list, a kanban board with swimlanes, a Gantt chart or a calendar.
Project planning
Gantt timelines with dependencies, milestones, baselines, auto-scheduling and a critical path come with every plan. Portfolios and PERT charts need Premium.
Team chat, discussions and calls
Rooms have a team chat, thread-based discussions and polls. One-to-one audio and video calls are on every plan; group conferences start on Premium.
End-to-end encryption
Content is encrypted in the browser with AES and RSA before it is stored, so the company says it cannot read messages, files or tasks. Servers are in Germany.
Pages, files and whiteboards
Pages act as a wiki, files sit in folders with versioning, and whiteboards on Premium can be edited by several people at once.
Time tracking and reports
Time tracking with estimates and a timer, budget planning for time and money, and filterable reports are included on every plan.
