How we grade them

3.0GPAmonday.comVery good3.2GPAPodioVery good
Value for money
CBasic is $9 a seat but has no automations, integrations or timeline, so most teams land on Standard at $12. ClickUp gives you Gantt charts and time tracking for $7.
CPlus is $11.20 a user a month billed annually, or $14 monthly, which is above the dear end of this category. Advanced automation needs Premium at $19.20. More API or automation capacity is a paid add-on on top, from $23 a month.
Free plan and trial
CTwo seats, three boards, three docs, and no automations. Fine for one freelancer with a few clients, no good for a team. There is a 14-day trial of Pro.
BFree for up to 5 users, with unlimited apps and workspaces, task management and webforms. But it's capped at 100 items across the whole organization, and automated workflows need a paid plan. A look round, not a home.
Features
ABoards, timelines, Gantt charts, dashboards, docs, forms, automations, time tracking and a pile of AI helpers. There's very little you can't bend it into.
BA no-code builder for your own apps, with table, kanban and calendar views, when/then workflows, integrated chat, webforms and free client access. Solid. But Gantt charts and time tracking aren't built in, and Podio points to community-built extensions for them.
Ease of use
A4.8 from about 48,000 App Store ratings. A diesel repair shop and a couple doing up a 1976 house both say it just made sense. There are 200+ templates to start from.
A4.6 from about 3,700 App Store ratings. You do build your own setup here, though it's drag and drop and there are pre-built templates to start from.
Platforms and integrations
BWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, with an API and 850+ integrations and apps. No Linux app, and reviewers say the phone app can't do all the website can.
AWeb, iPhone and Android. It connects to ShareFile, Dropbox, Google Drive, GoToMeeting, Excel and Gmail, and there's an API that allows 1,000 calls an hour.

Key features

monday.com

Boards and views
Work is tracked on boards made of items and typed columns. Timeline, Gantt and calendar views start on the Standard plan.
Automations and integrations
Both are metered by monthly actions: 250 each on Standard and 25,000 each on Pro. The integrations page lists 850+ integrations and apps.
Dashboards
Dashboards bring data from boards together into charts and summaries for reporting on progress.
Docs and forms
Built-in documents and forms sit next to boards. The Free plan allows up to 3 docs, and private boards and docs need Pro.
AI credits and agents
The Sidekick assistant, AI agents and a notetaker draw on a monthly credit pool: 1,000 credits on Basic, 2,000 on Standard and 3,000 on Pro.
Portfolio and resource management
The Enterprise plan adds portfolio management, resource management and multi-level permissions.

Podio

Custom apps and workspaces
A no-code drag-and-drop builder sets the fields and structure of each app, and relationship fields link items across apps. Apps and workspaces are unlimited on every plan.
Table, kanban and calendar views
Items can be shown as a table, a kanban board, a calendar or badges, with personalized dashboards and pre-built templates to start from.
Workflow automation
Simple when/then workflows come with Plus. Premium adds advanced automation with 25,000 actions a month, email integrations, PDF generation and date and time triggers.
Tasks and collaboration
Tasks, comments, mentions, file sharing and integrated chat sit next to the data, with user activity and revision history kept for each item.
Client access
Clients, freelancers and other outside parties can be invited free with limited permissions. Paid plans allow unlimited client users and add a light user role.
Webforms and API
Webforms capture submissions from outside the organization on every plan. The API allows 1,000 calls an hour, and paid add-ons raise that limit.
